We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.
Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.
Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out. -- updated 7:55 KST |

Wish they'd just do it like the CL, pool play to seed then straight up knockout. this ones complicated, but it works really well imo. just hard to understand, once you get it, its really good. I love the format. Sure, it's confusing but it takes like 5 minutes to understand if you actually give it a try. The only downside is that it's absolutely brutal on the players but as a spectator it's just perfect. yeah i agree, i remember the thread "doing MLG's job for them", read that and ive understood it clearly ever since, and yeah as a spectator, its perfect. in the long run its quite good, rewards the good players. and anyway, weve had 1 tourny so far, and it was one from someone from the open bracket, so its not impossible

I guess the system is fine but for those who will finish 4th place and above ... I wouldn't really give them "they 4th finish" but rather the "they are seeded 4th for the next MLG". A little subtle difference but that's just for my anal brain =P why? sure they had less games, but in theory they had much harder opponents, just look at the players they faced
Ok I guess I'll extend that to 9th place and above =P

Thorzain for example has to play MC again very soon if he manages to get this far, which will be an almost impossible task given the nature of the extended series. They should mix it up a little more.
It's a result of having 4 pools with 5 players, and there's no way around it. (instead of 4 pools with 4 players each)

So you guys planning on staying up till 6AM (GMT) to watch the grand finals? I'll try but it'll be pretty tough to stay awake.

I can even get along with the double elim + carrying over the score
but the way seeded players have A HUGE advantage over those from the open pool ... It just allows mediocre and even plain bad players to finish in spots they don't deserve, diminishing the results of those that have really worked hard and are up-and-coming.
Like MC said, GSL allows you to place highly just by thinking about good strategies (if you're in Code S you have to win 5 times to take the trophy), while tournaments like MLG force out the players that don't have the RTS basics to compete (that is unless you're seeded ......)
...
That's pretty contradictory, don't you think? (In terms of up-and-comers)
Seeded players either have a big advantage or disadvantage. That's just how the cookie crumbles with extended series. The players who compete in the open brackets are just as deserving man. That's a gauntlet in itself and players like July, T-Zain have to play another bo3s against the top seeds AFTER the fact as well. Yes, the guys who haven't met before and climbed through the loser brackets of the championships are in somewhat better shape because they didn't have to face those guys yet, but come on. Give me a break. They are up and comers themselves and they earned their shot.
Foreigner tournaments are a lot different than how the GSL works and its great. I like the different formats myself. I like to see players improvise.

1. Who would be willing to go to GSL Code A? - So far only Naniwa and Idra are certainties to get the Code A berth, but will they take it? I know Idra won't and Naniwa has expressed desires to go to GSL, but is it a little bit too early for him? This leaves two more open spots... I get the feeling that Sheth could be another likely candidate even if he doesn't make Top 3 foreigners, as he's going to Korea for GSTL anyway. I'm pretty sure Ret and Haypro won't be going back for Code A and Sheth has a pretty good chance of getting that berth. Kind of a good coincidence considering he can't make it for the Code A qualifiers.
2. Which Korean will return next MLG? - MMA and Losira are almost certainly going to obtain enough points for seeds for Anaheim. July and MC have a pretty good chance as well. Moon is still in the running. Are they going to return? Assuming some of them do (I'm pretty sure SlayerS has enough sponsors to send MMA in again and oGs and ST have shown they don't mind sending players abroad), this might start to have an effect of concentrating the Korean base. We could have up to 9 Koreans (10 since Select may still be seeded due to his Dallas performance) seeded players next season. And it may continue to grow for the next few MLGs. I'm sure CatZ will not be very happy.
true that interesting and maybe too early^^

*spoiler* did anyone noticed that the game between MC and IdrA (2nd game) MC positioned the immortals at front deliberately and positioned the stalkers to have a concave around them?
I think the overall outcome was idra losing lots of units due to that but the fungal did the damage that he wanted

qxc is done.
Select took him out 2-1.
Use the TL Brackets.

qxc is out of the tournament. They casted one of his matches late last night, but you'd have to check the VOD thread for that.

Oh my gosh, that bracket, look at how many Zergs are in the high seeds. This tourney is Zerg-dominated.

Cant find them on the brackets. I've checked if the pack is up to date and, no there aren't for now. The pack is compiled from MLG website, so if there are none, it will not contain them unfortunately. I am not proficient enough to retrieve non existing ones there are replays from the mc vs thorzain match here: http://www.sc2rep.com/ They are now up on MLG site too, so expect them included in the next version of my pack
