keep in mind this is just a preliminary review seeing as I have only had a few hours to play it and I am about to play some SC so here goes
Concept:
Brink is an FPS with a cool movement system that encourages the player to stay mobile while fighting while this sounds good in concept in execution some things seem to have been lost, the maps really don't feel any different from those of Killzone and so this whole movement system just seems to be lost and useless where as in other fps jumping would allow for the same mobility but brink does it better and this is really only a minor annoyance and the parkour allows for some pretty fun takedowns by tossing a grenade at your feet then jumping over the railing and things like that
Gameplay:
this is where I think that Brink sets itself apart from other shooters of today where games like cod and Battlefield just kind of tell you "go here, shoot him, take flag, go home" brink lets you decide what to do you can pick your objective through a radial menu by pressing the middle mouse button and this can lead to some pretty cool times where 2-3 of your team mates pick the same objective you feel like a couple of badasses as you actually do what you set out to do and win the whole damn game, or you can be a medic sprinting around and picking up said "badasses" after they nearly get themselves killed and so on and so forth the way brink plays out REALLY encourages teamwork if played correctly
Summary (for now, at least til I play some more) :
if you are a fan of fast paced shooters and don't mind a little bit of stupid deaths and some rather annoying sound issues (that i hear will be fixed very soon) Brink is most definitely worth your time though tbh you might want to rent it if your a console player because this game will appeal to a select group of people and will be either an "I love it!" or "I F**KING hate it" game for most people and much like guacamole it will be hard to find someone who only "kinda sorta likes it but doesn't hate it"
EDIT: OH wow forgot to give it a score well now I am thinking this is a solid 7/10 with room for improvement if the issues get fixed, also seeing as this is my first blog just let me know if there is any info that you want that i didn't provide and I am thinking of doing this regularly with either all new games I get or even going back and reviewing some classics

How much does the movement system actually figure into the gameplay? I'm considering picking this up because of that, but I'm wondering how useful it is, and how often it is actually used in matches. If it simply exists to get you from point A to point B, then it wouldn't be as fun as quickly dashing for cover, or getting amazing flanks etc. Does the map and/or game design allow for this?

the movement system REALLY factors into the gameplay once you get used to it, at first i thought it was just fancy and useless but as time went on I found myself sliding right under enemy fire to pick up a downed teammate or or vaulting over a crate to get a chance to heal myself and turn the tables on my enemy, not to mention sliding into a room and spraying never gets old, even if you die all the time

Ok, that sounds pretty cool. That was my major trepidation before buying this game was that it would just be another Enemy Territory game or Class based shooter, with the movement gimmick thrown in. However, after hearing that, you've put my mind much at ease. to be honest, beyond the gameplay, I also really like the setting and art-style, it really appeals to me as well. :p
Thanks!

I am currently contemplating buying this game, but I am not sure about it as I just starting seeing it and reading up on it.
The FPS games I play now are CS 1.6 (Been playing CS since it was in the ending stages of beta ), TF2, and BC2, and I am wondering how Brink compares to the gameplay in those in terms of speed and the ablility to be played for a LONG time.
I don't want to drop the $50 if I will only play it for a few hours and none after that. I guess what I am trying to get at is : Does the game seem like it has a high replay value?
Thanks Sega for this blog, I think it is pushing me a little closer to buying it,

um it is NOTHING like 1.6 it has a little bit of the TF2 feel to it, only the fact that certain classes can only do certain objective encourages much more diversity and really makes you play around with the classes at least a little bit (because lets face it no one EVER does the objective except you in any objective based game) though I must say the replay value really depends on how much you like this style of game its hard to predict, for me i am more of a quake guy so this isn't quite what I can see myself spending hundreds of hours on, but i do feel for some this game will be well loved if it suits them I can see people spending quite a while on this game if you are hesitant about it I say the best thing would be look it up on youtube or something and just really be sure, because again I think this is really going to appeal to a rather targeted audience but that being said it is good fun

i watched it on jps stream last night. the game seemed fine, but it didnt bring anything to the table over tf2 except looks. the movment button seemed completely unused in multiplayer, the only time people used it was the same way people using prone in cod to avoid fire. the problem is you face away from people the moment you use it so its purely a defensive thing, that barely works anyway.
overall the game looked solid, apart from the classic medics get too many points problem, but i cant see why i would buy it over any older shooter.

yeah, well you watched it and I played it, please tell me how a third person perspective on the game makes you know any more about it?
any ways the movement can actually really help in a fight if you slide into an enemy that can give you a nice opening to throw your enemy off and get the kill, it helps more for getting away from the fight and you dont face away from people the moment you use it, that was jp being pretty damn good at brink

So I downloaded it last night. This game is sooo awesome, like a cod//bfbc2//halo? while being able to customize erythang. I jump/slide into bed every chance i get now.
