I'm finding that I study a lot better when I listen to music while I do so. I've also found that classical music helps much more than rock or whatever else. So far, I've really just been repeating two songs- Clair de Lune by Debussy, and Bach Cello Suite 1 in G major.
Both I heard in my Music 1010 class. They seem to help me focus in a calm manner. I can't seem to remember other classical music that I liked; just that I liked the impressionist period most of all.
What do you listen to when you study? It doesn't necessarily have to be classical, as I kind of want to see what helps people focus. It's kind of interesting to me, and I wanna see what TL listens to.
Mahler, Rachmaninoff, and Shostakovich are all very helpful for focusing (<3 Mahler's 8th). However, I also mix in some of The Low Anthem and Sigur Ros. Really, just chill stuff helps me focus on my work better than, say, Okkervil River or The Shins.
It's a good idea to avoid songs with lyrics when studying or trying to fall asleep etc, as people have a habbit of avoiding one thing by singing along with the song. I also find it's good to listen to a small set on a loop as then it makes it harder for me to go oh it's been 2 hours i sure have been working long i think i should take a break ie messes with my perception of time, the small loop also makes it cool to listen to songs with lyrics as it will get old haha. Personally i like

Agreed. I avoid songs/pieces with words or with memorable/catchy melody lines, so that also includes my favorite classical pieces (I will starting humming the melodies, harmonies, etc.). I need to listen to simple, repetitive instrumentals on loop (for potentially hours/days), such as The American Dollar, or maybe a less melodic piece by Hunter Van Larkins.
I have an entire playlist dedicated to studying (I have a playlist dedicated to about everything, including sleeping, walking, etc). It includes that Cello suite, Bach's Rage over a Lost Penny, couple of Coldplay songs, some Dave Matthews, and pretty much any other kind of music you can think of. Also some U2, and (you can really tell I'm a nerd here) some of the Halo and Inception soundtrack.
