Crisis in Japan - Page 9
Forum Index > General Forum |
Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members. Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

I hope the damages are minimal and not too many lives are lost.

I live in Yokohama which is about 40 km from Tokyo, and to my knowledge there hasn't been much damage - in this area. My family has contacted my dad who lives in Tokyo and he's said that everything is ok. Up in Sendai though, different story.

Such a gigantic earthquake. Remember that the Richter scale is logarithmic... so to put this in context it's roughly 500 times larger than the earthquake that devastated Christchurch last month and probably killed over 200 people (including a number of Japanese tourists). From what I've been hearing, people generally have made it out ok... so hopefully we'll continue to hear that as we learn more.

Oh, and ABC News 24 is live-streaming NHK World, you can watch it here: http://www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/ edit: yup, 11,000 people in the affected areas in russia are being evacuated.. just shows you the magnitude of the earthquake

Her father works in tokyo, and they didn't get ahold of him yet so thats at least reassuring.
