Religious perception is like chess, but not the way chess is played. Rather, chess from the eye of the pieces whom can only see a square or two away from them. Mr. Rook can talk to a couple of pawns and a knight, but not really anyone else; everything else he hears is just rumour.
At some point it gets back to him that even though he's just chilling with his friends off in a corner of the board there's an "enemy" out there, but he doesn't really have that much confirmation that the enemy exists. Meanwhile, the bishop is confused right from the start because he's heard of some crazy bishop that travels on BLACK squares, and everyone know that bishops only travel on WHITE squares. Such heretical nonsense.
A pawn somewhere cries out about the injustice of life when he is sacrificed while the king and rook run off together, happily sitting on their asses over there doing nothing and feeling no hardships. There's a few pawns in the middle of the field, too far away from everyone else to know what's going on else, staring at their opposite-coloured counterparts and wondering how similar they really are and if they're really enemies in the first place.
...and, of course, no one knows what the win condition REALLY is. They only know what they're told to do by some oblique "player" that knows everything.

LOL
The only thing we need now to make this thread golden is for a religious person to get offended and make a response.

As a chess player, I am greatly offended. This is the kind of incendiary bullshit up with which I will not put. Why can't you be open to forms of entertainment involving a board and wooden pieces. It's not like I'm trying to force my game on you.
