Well, I'm just blogging to talk about something me and one of my friends have going on. I'm a heavy SC1 supporter, him SC2, so we (I) decided to have a Bo5 (3 SC2 games, 2 SC1). I'm a BW Z/P, iccup D level He's a SC2 Z, Low diamond.
I've never played a single SC2 game. He's never played a single BW game.
Here it is:
Game 1: SC2, Xel'Naga Caverns Game 2: BW, Match Point Game 3: SC2, Metalopolis Game 4: BW, Fighting Spirit Game 5: SC2, Lost Temple
I'm hoping my SC1 macro skills (doubtful) will carry over to SC2, while he's resigned to losing the BW games but running me over in the higher number of SC2 games. Any tips for SC2 PvZ (for someone playing his first SC2 game) - anything i should know?

I don't think your BW macro skills will allow you to overcome your unfamiliarity with the game if you haven't played ANY games of SC2 before then. For example, when I switched I got constantly supply blocked due to the fact that the hotkey for pylon was switched to 'e' (even though there's no goddamn 'e' in pylon).
Anyway, despite how much I despise the build, your best bet is to probably learn a good 4gate build :/
Similarly, you shouldn't take the BW games for granted and expect cheese from him (4pool both games...)

play a few games before the grudge match because learning the timing for chronoboost for the first time can be quite difficult. sentry+ forcefield= your friend-- learn how to utilize it.
|
Yeah, maybe watch a few videos on how to 4 gate (lol) will work, if not your best bet is to learn 3 gate sentry fe.

the dreaded 4gate build .. what ever the hell that is .. they pretty much whine about it and transition?? to colossi?
start watching VoDs now! >.<

Thanks for the feedback (wow so fast!) guys. @Sayle - Perfectly prepared for 4pool, actually - expecting him to do it at least once (btw I love your stream - just sayin') @frog - I don't actually have SC2 is the problem - I'm borrowing someone elses comp to do it
Also, I'm planning to 4gate at least once just in case it works :D 3gate sentry FE - yeah, i'm already looking into that

Let us know how this ends!

Proxy what? early proxy gate rush shenanigans? proxy voidrays?

I assume neither of you are allowed to play sc2/bw at all before the game yes?
if so i recommend you just proxy gate him and 4 gate him and cannon rush/proxy vr / proxy dt
If you are unfamiliar with the hotkeys , remember that you can change it on options so it match bw hotkeys.
I guess one of the most impt thing is to wall off properly. Choose the display build grip in the options

Lol you never played one game of SC2? I mean even if you only played 10 games you might have still been able to cheese a game off him. The BW wins are a given since mechanically BW is wayyyyy harder, but honestly the sc2 losses are a given as well since your friend is diamond leauge. Bronze league maybe, diamond league hell no

Im sorry but you'll probably lose the grudgematch lol.
Its not really the skill level that will cause you to lose but the understanding since the game do flow abit differently. I think you should just watch out for him doing some 3 roach speedling allin but you probably don't even know the timings since you haven't touched it before. Similarly he will lose to you in scbw.
If he lets you go play the macro game you might be able to win though, just play defensive and build up a deathball( colossus vr stalkers) but watch out for corrupters and broodlords. Also care for muta ling cause you dont have a good counter to mutas(phoenix dont splash and stalkers suck)
Sentries are also paramount if you want to win, split his army with forcefields then take them one chunk at a time

Hmm - well, when i let him go 3SC2, 2BW, I was expecting to lose.
My understanding is pretty similar to you guys' - if i get past early/mid game, I might have a chance, but lack of BO knowledge and familiarity will probably kill me. Oh well, I sorta don't want to cheese (matter of pride) and I'll have fun.
Will give results and battle reports (if I can be bothered) when I get around to it :D

You should be able to beat him in at least one SC2 game. Just don't forget hotkey for pylon is E (WTF) and good chronoboost usage ;D. Forcefield will help you win the battles. Don't forget it is easy, just make units and don't let him surprise you.

Cheese 1 game in sc2 and win, rape him in broodwar
prove its the superior game
YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT

YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT One problem - Cheesing in SC2 doesn't really prove much - I have to beat him in macro game to prove my point (I am tempted, though)

The Issue with hotkeys can be avoided. You can set to classic hotkeys in sc2 so pylons and probes are P, stalkers(replacement for dragoons which arn't really similar) are D etc.
but I still think you'll probably lose unfortunately, due to your unfamiliarity with the game.

ok so no cheese eh? pick terran and micro/macro marines ..
micro them like your life depended on it ..
SPAM THOSE FUCKING MARINES!!!!
|
Actually, going from BW->SC2 is pretty easy. Go four gate blink stalkers. Did you know that zergbong is a GOD in SC2? Your D microing abilities will dominate him.
