So here goes, I'm a platinum Protoss, altho my diamond Terran friend repeatedly tells me that im good enough to be diamond easily if only I played enough.
Anyways, i often like to sign up to tournaments like Go4SC2 or craftcup, just for fun. Today I decide to play in craftcup.
so the tension is in, will I get in?! 1200 or so people signed up, only 512 spots. i refresh and refresh the page. YES I'M IN! so i spend the next 15 minutes talking with my friend and just chatting about the game, when I see the tourney has started.
I'm about to find my opponent but he's found me, his name is kaup, rank 1 of his diamond division and a progamer. Ok, I'm royally screwed. But I decide to give it a go, we play on Jungle Basin, he does banshee harass but i manage to stop him from doing too much damage, but his push at the end is too much and I dont have templars out yet. I gg.
I just felt like telling this story today, the replay is uploaded for anybody that's interested

Maybe he's trying to point out your generous usage of the term progamer
in respect to your opponent being one, that is
but that is just my guess

someone who has been invited to play in an invitational tournament with players like White-Ra, Darkforce etc pretty much qualify

BW progamer: years of hard work, dedication and skill to attain an esteemed designation that only a select few will actually achieve SC2 progamer: get invited to a $200 dollar tournament that is 3/4s nobodies

That absolutely does not qualify you to be a progamer. Progamers mean something special in BW, in SC2 it is thrown around way too often and easily
|
What is the new requirement for progamer status in SC2? In BW it was having a progamer license, but now in SC2 it is vague because there is no governing body, the equivalent of KESPA in BW. I'd say anyone who lives in a progaming house and is either paid a salary or makes enough money off tournaments is a progamer. Anyone who says #1 in diamond is enough to be a pro doesn't give enough respect to the amount of skill and most of all dedication the true pros have.

A professional player is a player who makes a living from playing. Either you're a progamer or you're not. You're not a progamer for being first in your diamond division.

jesus people. maybe its a cultural thing but in french we say PGM Progamer as in someone whos really good. I'm sorry but does number 1 in diamond not mean really good? I'm not saying he's a professional starcraft player. I'm saying he's really fucking good. can you just drop it?

You do realize that the "pro" in progamer is from the word professional right? And yet you're not saying he's a professional while still being a progamer. I think you're right, it may be a cultural thing, but the reason they are called progamers is because they are professional gamers, it's their job. But yeah, being ranked first in your diamond division does mean he's really good, a shame you had to get matched against him first round. Better luck next tournament!

yes I do realise that, but in french when you say 'un pro' or 'un PGM' ur reffering to skill, youd say 'un joueur professionnel' which means 'professional player.' I don't know, that's how i've always talked

The misuse of a term has caused this thread to now be about the definition of progamer.
Anyways, never EVER think of someone's rank. You could have easily killed this guy off at any time for the first 10 minutes. You were ahead in probe count and army cost for the first 13 minutes. Have some more confidence in yourself. You're easily a diamond level player. If you played more, you'd be in top 1000.
