...So, early action admission results came back today, or at least I got an e-mail notification.
Was denied my first choice, Stanford, and I'm pretty down atm .
I know, I know:
"tons of great people don't get in, it's ridiculously hard to and random a ton of times" - but as always, there was that odd mix of idealism/naivete where I thought that couldn't happen to me, I thought my essays were well-written, emotional, meaningful, unique, and even sprinkled with humor. Internships at the Federal Public Defender and City Council and Mitchell Cancer Institute, Debate for 4 years being a finalist at national qualifiers/getting a bid to the National Tournament of Champions, etc. Plus, my older brother got in/attended, graduating a year ago.
"it's not the end of the world" - I've always had this general attitude, but now I find that I can't help feeling like shit. I remember getting a text from my friend saying that he got denied today [the application technically said results would come back on December 15th], my heart racing out of my control. I woke up from a nap to find out, and really didn't want to ask my parents with the fear of bad news, then checked my email, and well...I just don't know what to do at the moment. Worse part is, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do the last 4 apps I had if this panned out, but.....yeah.
Hope you feel better! It's pretty normal to feel like shit after that sort of thing though, you'll get over it eventually.
I'm sure you'll get into somewhere you'll enjoy and a very good school with your credentials.
Hey dude. I got rejected from Stanford too. I feel you. There are other colleges to go too. =\ Kinda bummed out about it too but it was a reach anyways.
Stanford is more or less a coinflip for the most qualified so don't be too down
Don't worry, I didn't get in either lol
hope you applied to McGill lols
You have a pretty impressive resume, so I think you should take away the fact that you did your best in either case. Sucks that you didn't want to get in to your institution of choice, but its pretty good that you feel down about it because that you means you still hold yourself up to high standards with well placed ambitions. If you stick with that attitude, you'll succeed in whatever you pursue.
I guess it's pretty bad that you gotta do more apps though O_O that sucks. Best of luck in the future.
Stanford is so hard O.O I didn't apply, but I doubt I would've gotten in either. I know this isn't much consolation at the moment, but a lot of people I know didn't get into their first choice schools and they're all happy with where they ended up. I'm sure you'll land on your feet man!

asian equation also requires sports or music
don't worry man, like everybody else stanford is a coin flip
I know someone at Harvard who got rejected by Stanford, don't feel bad.
Dude, Stanford ain't the only college in the world.
Oooh what high school and what type o' debate did you do? (policy debater here)
Ouch, tons of people at my school (like 3 or 4, not a ton but whatev) got rejected from Stanford, and they were all really, really smart people with high GPAs and all the nice ECs and stuff. Don't worry bout it that much, there are plenty of other colleges. makes me happy I applied ED to columbia Edit: And got in! For engineering! and i plan to go financial engineering :D
Edt2: Whoa whoa OP goes to Bellarmine, the school notorious for having a totally awesome debate team that rolls over all the other schools lol. Wait........ HEY YOU'RE IN BAY AREA TOO
3/4 people I know got into stanford ED. wtf.
I got deferred by UPenn.
Probably won't help your quasi-depression at the moment, but keep in mind that your future won't turn on the fickle whims of an admissions comitteee.
Also, if you're doing the sciences, undergraduate name value really doesn't matter.
Hey man keep this little gem in mind: You lose some, you gain some.
You just never know and one day, you might look back and say, " Fuck Stanford! I'm so glad I didn't go there because I met the girl of my dreams (some shit like that)."
I remember I was dead set on going to UCSC, then I was rejected and I was like WAH??!? So I ended up in Davis and now I couldn't be happier.
Yeah, you will feel like shit. It's inevitable. I did last year when I got deferred from MIT, then even worse when I got rejected from MIT.
However, everything gets better over time. I'm going to Columbia now, and I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. It's great.
no one should expect to get into a top school like stanford. it's unreasonable to expect to get in no matter what your stats are.
Don't worry I was also rejected We're all in the same boat!

Oooh I was so sad when that happened to me. And then I got into my first choice. And then I couldn't afford anything but my eighth choice out of eight.

Yea, I got rejected from Stanford too D:. Awells, stanf IS ridiculously selective...
