To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |

T.O.P has a point,
While I do believe that posts should and could be more constructive, you also have to keep in mind who the posters on this forum are. It's a bunch of hormone-enraged male nerds, the majority whom I assume are in their 20s and the topic of discussion is about Kpop, an industry which is heavily run on looks, sexual appeal and idol lifestyle. These sorts of discussions like breast size is pretty stupid, but if you think about it, it's still within context and kind of unavoidable.
I'm sure many of us can attest to the liking of a certain group or idol mainly because of their looks and personality and then their music, I mean MVs speak for themselves, some of us have to actually watch the MV in order to start liking the song, otherwise it's just overlooked overall. Like Hyuna's Change, it's the MV that got her famous, not her song.

Given the nature of how things are in this thread, it's pretty much impossible to prevent arguments from popping up simply because for every person that likes something, there are plenty who don't like that same thing.
That being said, it's pretty obvious as to what's on topic, what's off topic, what constitutes a stupid argument, ridiculous topic. This thread is called Korean Music Discussion, formerly known as the KPop thread. Let's try to keep this on topic, talk more about the music, how it sucks, how it doesn't, less about the idols themselves. Yes, a discussion thread does require some discussion once in a while. So why don't we start off with a discussion about what's new as of late, and when things die down a little bit, we can get a bit off topic and stuff.
Honestly, the day this thread died out was the day Ixas started spamming gifs. Simply because the generated discussion content from gifs is absolutely 0. Honestly, there have been numerous groups that have come back recently with new stuff. However, the discussion about those songs has been like limited to like 2-3 MV posts, and maybe one or two people saying they like it or they don't like it. Then it's gotten back off topic to more gif spams with "THX UR THE BEST AMG I <3 _________". This shit reads like AKP, and it's pretty sickening.
Put some effort into your fucking posts, or at least keep this on topic. Discuss. Discuss. In other threads, you see people arguing about whatever the topic is. This thread is just a bunch of one liners that read like AKP does. Can we at least attempt to try to get it back to the way it was before? If you want to speak about idols, whatnot, can we at least point to "________ looks good in ____________" or "___________ was good in ____________, not so good in ___________".
|
Yes... it's all Ixas fault. Way to go, Ixas.
I have no qualms with the posting of pictures or gifs. People can choose to talk about them or ignore them, like everything else. That's what makes spoilers such a great thing.
As for the mod's annual threatening to close the thread, why don't you just moderate what you consider to be terrible posts like you would in any other thread? It's as if you all are content to lurk and look at the cute girls in super short shorts and don't care at all and then suddenly "things have been so bad for XYZ time that we're considering closing the thread (again)." It's frankly ridiculous; there's basically no way to know what a mod does or doesn't approve of because all we really ever see is the post every 2-3 months of some mod threatening to shut things down because of the "general low quality." The only time there's even a ban or warn is for some completely over the top remark (usually by AG) or somebody dumb enough to post SC spoilers.
So, I return to my original point: if things are "so bad" that they're causing mods to "discuss closing the thread," deal with those specific posts. Set an example, since we [the posters] clearly aren't on the same page.

Instead of moderators threatening the very existence of this thread, maybe more mods should MODERATE, and give out warnings and eliminate the source of the shitty discussions/arguments that you don't like. I think that's a much better solution, rather than posting like this:

Really guys? Really? This is getting ridiculous, I don't understand why I shouldn't close this now.
For instance this turd should've been given a warning

It's not just a few posts by some people. The collective post quality in here blows. Even from you and me. Part of it has to do with the lack of moderation in here, which allows us to get away fucking terrible posts all the time. But we're used to being allowed to troll and spam shit in here, so we continue doing it, which is why the thread has turned into shit. Banning a select few posters won't make anything better honestly. There are a lot more people at fault here than you think.

the problem right now is this whole argument, there's zero kpop content so can we please move on?
people don't come here to read essays you know
+ Show Spoiler [hsy good] +
and you know, on second thought there maybe something fundamentally wrong with this thread after all, and that's the fact that I have to spoiler the good stuff, while all that bullshit taking up space for the last two pages has not yet resulted in a single BAN
User was banned for this post.

People also come here for the quality discussions by seeing a picture of the crypt creeper every time yoona is mentioned too right?
Anyways, I agree with roffles, and I admit, I've thrown some one liners here and there and trolled. Hopefully, this thread gets better and stays open cause some people actually share some good music (hi mm).

Good point on starting to ban or warn for particular posts from now on. I'll try to step up moderation in here when I can, just don't be surprised when people start getting ding'd for stuff they got away with before. There is no reason why discussion of Kpop has to consist of one-liners and flaming/idiocy.

There is nothing elitist about asking someone not to post like an idiot. We've demanded that of our members since the beginning, and it's worked well for the forums. It may be our fault for not taking action against idiocy in this thread before, but I'm sure the mods in this thread are going to start trying to make it clear from now on.
If you're going to label certain discussions as stupid, you're preventing people from talking about the silly, stupid parts of Kpop.
My expectation is to keep the discussion at least semi-mature in how you discuss topics, however silly or stupid they are, while also maintaining some level of mutual respect for others. It's one thing to respond to someone saying they think Hyoyeon is attractive by saying "Are you serious? She's clearly the least attractive member of SNSD" and saying "You, sir, are obviously blind and a fucking idiot" while posting that ever-present Hyorc picture. Both are saying the same thing, but one is clearly unnecessarily inflammatory, insulting and harsh, and will likely result in nothing but a stupid flamewar. You don't have to hold back criticism, but you do have to present it in a reasonable manner.

TL has never let the fact that most of its members are likely young and immature kids dictate their moderation policy. We expect members to maintain a certain level of quality in their posts, regardless of age or maturity level. If a person is too young or immature to not post like an idiot and be able to understand what is/is not acceptable, then they don't belong here. The fact that this thread will tend to attract idiots does not change that.
Discussion about how attractive/sexy/cute/etc. a particular idol or artist is fine, but, again, it's all about how it is discussed. You can say Hyuna looks sexy in Change without being a flaming, insulting, and disrespectful idiot. You can link to and discuss a MV with sexy or cute content in such a manner as well. The fact that you're talking about physical appearance, sexiness, etc. does not necessitate immature, insulting and disrespectful posts.

I shouldn't have let that one go, but I was hoping that people wouldn't respond to such idiocy with similar idiocy. I actually expected people to shrug him off as an obvious troll or someone not worth arguing with. My mistake there.

Threatening to close the thread was dumb. I moderate this thread whenever I have the patience to, which is about once a month. Looks like it's time of the month...

New topic of discussion guys!
Let's find a clever way to ask/find out Min's Gamertag. Everybody knows she plays Black Ops (she mentioned it on Twitter). A good way to start might be to figure out if she plays on PS3, Xbox360 or PC.
gogogo
By the way I <3 this thread don't close it.

Exactly how are you going to stalk it out of her? Plus, she'd be on SEA servers.
|
I don't know that's why I ask for ideas, otherwise I'd just keep it to myself heyhey.

No such thing on XBL as far as I'm aware of. Don't know about PS3. I doubt she plays on PC (PC too complicated for girls?_lol)
|
She definitely plays consoles, but even if there aren't specially relegated servers for SEA, you'd still be put on the closest servers for the best latency.
|
I don't know man. I get matched up against Japanese pretty often when I play at 5 AM.
And anyways if you get someone on your friends list you can invite them to join your games and stuff.
