do you have any tips on when to drop oldschool stuff? I have tons of 80s-90s stuff that everybody seems to love but more often than not I put them in later and they go unnoticed
Its all about reading the atmosphere I guess. You could drop a quick set in the beginning before going into the current top40, and/or if you've played a lot of top40 hits in a row you can segway into an oldschool set for a bit. Just don't do like one oldschool hit, one top40, one oldschool, etc. unless theres some sort of cohesiveness (or are an amazing mashup guy lol)
gotcha, won't be at the comp all night so I'll have some playlists ready but I tend to go with the flow I'll try to remember that
Good luck, hope it'll be fun Oh yeah you probably want to group up most songs by their tempo/bpm (so you don't get one slow jam next to one high energy track). It sucks to be dancing to a fast club hit and then all the energy is gone with a slow song. Don't throw like 20 fast tracks together either though, people will get tired out fast lol.

yeah I know about pacing haha I usually just put something smooth like house or trance at the beginning so ppl can chill/mingle while others get there the usual "starts at 8, people start coming in at 10" bullshit
More smooth/chill party songs: I Will Be Here ft. Sneaky Sound System (Wolfgang Gartner Remix) - Tiesto Kids (Robokids Remix) - MGMT (pretty good electro version) Animal Rights - Deadmau5 & Wolfgang Gartner (not exactly "smooth" but w.e..)
Non-chill party songs: Alors on Dance - Stromae Stereo Love - Edward Maya Patron Tequila - Paradiso Girls ft. Lil Jon Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix) - Ellie Goulding (best remix of starry eyed ever!) Rude Baptism (Rihanna vs. Crystal Castles) - The Hood Internet (i didnt think these 2 songs mashed up would sound good... but surprisingly imo they do) Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix) - Kid Cudi Club Can't Handle Me (Sidney Samson Remix) - Flo Rida (very very club-esque) Paranoid (Party Rock Remix) - Kanye West ft. LMFAO
not sure exactly what type of songs you're looking for so i gave a bit of a range... hope these are somewhat useful!

how is 50 cent and nelly oldskool? oldskool (hip hop) would be Kool G Rap , House of Pain , Public enemy (all a little commercial i know but thats what he wants)
I was gonna type a huge list but you've got a lot of suggestions so I'll keep it to the best ones from my experience.
Party in the USA -- Miley Cyrus. Instant wetness. Whatever You Like -- T.I. Have it come on later in the night and sing along with it while you're with a gal Hey Ya -- Kinda retro but always fun.

thx for the suggestions!
I'll def be playing Animal Rights and some other Deadmau5 I have earlier, maybe drop I Remember at some point since that's like the only one everyone knows. I'd play stuff like Strobe but generally people who haven't seen him live just don't get it
holy shit that starry eyes remix is godly, jakwob is amazing <3
Alors on Danse is kinda...meh. sure I'm 100% positive everyone knows it but I'm mostly gonna be with french canadians and the song is pretty gloomy if you know what the dude's saying.
it's kinda hard to browse through 4.9k songs to try and find what's good (especially to remember what people enjoy(ed)) so I appreciate the flashbacks
Since I think past 2:30-3am there's only gonna be electro aficionados I'll builo a trance/house playlist using stuff from like, 2004-2008. oh the nostalgia.
that Rude Baptism mashup is pretty good, made me want to listen to more Crystal Castles ^^
Iunno much about current music, but I've been really digging this song recently :x (I only have one song to recommend, sorry lol. Maybe the ghosts n stuff remix with rob swire?)

haha yeah love jakwob. that remix is just genius.
hmm if you're looking for 2004-2008 house and stuff like show me love, maybe these?
infinity 2008 - josh guru project where's your head at (klaas remix) - jean elan destination unknown - alex gaudino // calabria 2008 (kurd maverick remix) - enur rise up (vandalism remix or original..) - yves larock let the bass kick - dj chuckie world, hold on - bob sinclair i'm not alone - calvin harris (tiesto & deadmau5 remix are not bad but i think orig is best) love is gone - david guetta
my playlists/music collection is pretty disorganized though so i'm not sure if you'll find these any good. D:
lol that's pretty much what I was thinking (guetta/klaas/sinclair etc)
I'm looking at like 8 hours of raw material (need to think of order/transitions now) cause I decided to go more like 02-09. I'm not too sure how I'm gonna make it work but meh, I have like 10 days.
for some reason though I think I'll need a few more "new" songs so keep suggesting stuff people
oh and for I'm not alone, for me it goes original>doorley>deadmau5
I want to drop this at some point but don't know if it'll catch on
