Day[9] vs. The World
A friend of mine suggested that I check out these things called "Day[9] Dailies" to improve my game. Going through the TeamLiquid Day[9] thread, they mentioned the best one to start with is probably episode 100 if you haven't viewed any of the others. This was said mostly to get a feel of the host's history if unfamiliar with Sean's (as well as his families) in the Starcraft Universe.
The video starts off a bit awkward, felt like a random youtube video of people video blogging. I was happy to see that it was strangely entertaining and I was really surprised it kept my attention the entire video (it was incredibly long). He's got a good sense of humor and becomes progressively funny over his videos. It's always the awkward nerd funny stuff that is perfect for his audience. This guy has an incredible story from being a total noob at SC1 to tournament champion with all the up's and downs of his current career as a pro gamer in a pro gamer family. Even outside of the pro SC1 scene, I knew the name 'Tasteless' from watching GOMTV stuff during championships that he'd cast for the English speaking population. Tasteless has a bunch of old Starfeeder post too that are worth seeking out as well.
Anyway, Day[9] has a bunch of videos he streams live most days during the week which are supposedly wildly interesting and incredibly informative. This, of course, brings many many fans and followers to his cause which is explained in the end of episode 100. As far as I know with only the knowledge of that one video, he mains Zerg in SC1 and probably 2 as well. This appeals to me directly because it's my favorite race and it's the one I practice the most.
I was truly touched by the entire video. There's a few moments where he comes very close to tears, and I felt it along with him. His story is really fantastic about two brothers who just straight up love Starcraft and grew up becoming SC scene professionals. Any real gamer can identify with this man. The gaming curfews, the fighting for the computer, talking strategy and (for me) planning strategy with your friends at school, the little rivalries you go through with them, and just overall teenage gamer type of stuff. Hell, I remember the stupid strategies my friend James and I used to concoct during History class. We were always planning to one up Max, Jake, or my friend Brian with all sorts of silly battlecruiser rushes while he covers me with 50 lurkers. We were all noobs playing fastest maps and bgh, so expanding was a bit of a crazy concept.
The video is full of real heartfelt moments like quotes from his brother, Nick, consoling and encouraging words from his mother, and even an opponent showing him real respect after Sean's loss. He puts excellent emphasis on these moments and you really feel for him and his situation and look at yourself a little teary-eyed. Throughout the story if his career you truly feel that he's evolved into a much better and smarter person/player.
I suggest anyone who hasn't seen episode 100 to check it out immediately.

I really hope he achieves his goal to help bring about a better e-sports scene of the west. Though, I might think twice about showing him to my mom to talk about e-sports.

Come on guys, episode 100 was a nice daily but it wasn't THAT great. How the hell do you get teary eyed at that -_-. I agree the thing with him and tasteless (where tasteless beat nony, and then played day9 later on) was moving but...yea...

I do, and it was a very nice daily but it didn't tug the strings of my heart and put tears in my eyes.

I can understand not being moved but when you have been in roughly the same situation then he was (WCG 2005 when he makes a silly mistakes and loses) it brings back memories and made me teary-eyed
of course if you never had a similar situation then I can understand it not being all that great.

If you have it, then anything that can make someone else emotional can also make you emotional. If you think "should this make me emotional?" then you are totally missing it. It's not a rational thing at all.

so what's the deal with pizza?
a lot of my friends eat, which is cool I guess, to each his own or whatever, but I've never really been into it myself, I much prefer breathing and sniffing, that sort of thing, but then my friends were like "hey you should check out pizza" so i was like fine, i'll get some
so I tried a slice. at first I was annoyed because I had to eat it with my hands, it kind of got on my fingers, but I appreciated the fact that there was crust and a bread base so that the sauce and toppings didn't fall everywhere. 1 slice didn't quite fill me up, so instead of just eating one, i ate two. however after finishing the second piece I was still hungry, so i decided to eat a third. however i was unable to finish it, so i suppose you could say i had 2 slices and a half, though measuring "halves" of triangles is hard
I truly enjoyed the pizza. though skeptical at first, I ended up enjoying far more than i had originally planned. even though I usually don't eat, the pizza appealed to the things that i do like to do as well. like smelling it. it smelled really good.
i suggest anyone eat pizza who hasn't tried it yet

Well obviously everyone is different. It's not hard to see how they could act that way so what's so astonishing.

Most of us on teamliquid have been watching his daily's since episode 10 or longer, I know I have.
I got completely teary eyed in the 100th episode and have shown it to many many people. It's emphasis on the struggle of a gamer life and how you can be awful then become great. It's truly amazing and I love Sean for bringing it to us, also he is just a wonderful guy. I've met him in person at a lan, and seen him shoutcast live. He's a really funny guy, also he is super personable, which many people wouldn't expect from us nerds!
I think he shows people what many of us nerds are. We aren't insociable freaks, we are humorous and personable. Well most of us our similar to day9.

I wouldn't say most of us are similar to Day[9]. I think he is what many of us aspire to be.
