Could just lubing the chain fix this? Or is there a different problem within the gears?

Either switch gears to avoid the problem or adjust the shifter cable so you can use whatever gear it keeps slipping off of. | ||

If however, that does not fix your bike, you need to open the same part on the back wheel and check the same. If those mechanisms are not lubed/or have any broken parts it will make cranking noises and the wheel will spin harder. | ||

Alternatively, hand it in to a bike shop and they will repair it (and go through the whole bike, retuning brakes etc.) for 20$ | ||
