Menu, too small to see here, had to reduce the quality for dropbox.
This is called Uzaku and it was ridiculously delicious. It's grilled unagi with fresh cucumbers soaked in vinegar.
Dipping sauce for the next dish.
This is called Umaki, meaning a unagi (sushi) roll. It's ground grilled unagi inside a Japanese style egg omelet. It's less flavourful than the first appetizer, but I thought it was very creative.
Side dish for the entree.
It came in an lidded box.
Saw a random sign for Taiyaki outside of Obana. Decided to check it out. A taiyaki is a fish-shaped (the fish being called 'tai') pastry filled with sweet red bean paste.
The shop's sign.
Been in business since 1955... You can see my reflection here

The taiyaki.
Random railroads outside of minamisenju. Nothing spectacular, just haven't seen this many railroad tracks for a while.
Entrance to Ameyoko
This thing was actually pretty good. Ameyoko yaki. It's like an okonomi yaki, but smaller.
I would engage super jealous mode, but I'm not too big of a fan of unagi, I can eat it but it gets sickening if I eat too much of it. Probably from the very rich sauce. However, I will engage jealous mode because you're in Japan ;D
How is Unagi dishes in japan prepared? Apart from the already delicious eel? My grandpa used to prepare eel-sandwiches with some lettuce and fresh caught fried eel, damn that was tasty.

I think the most popular unagi dish is unagi-donburi, which is just grilled eel over a bed of plain rice. It's what I had, but you just can't see the rice because the rice was completely covered by the eel

Haji! Recommend me places to go in/near Tokyo. I'm interested in trying lots of Japanese food (no kaiseki please) this time around. I prefer specialty shops though, so things like tonkatsu, ramen, tempura and even sushi would be great. Preferably under 10000jpy per person
