I'm pleased to announce that myself and BookTwo have been appointed to the story writing team for Infinity: The Quest For Earth. We are part of a team of 15 people directly responsible for the lore of this game. I have been assigned also to the task of being the Wiki editor, which means more work, more responsibility, but more chance of moving up (maybe a real job?) when this game is released, which is good, because my opinion of this game is that it's going to be the next big thing since, well, Starcraft (yeah! I said it!). I've been following the development of this indy game since early 2006.
I don't really know what I should and shouldn't say regarding the story because we're still discussing many of the major details, so I'll just leave that out.
What I can tell you about the game is that it's going to be a realistically scaled imitation of the Milky Way Galaxy. It won't have everything, or even most things perfect, because taking the time to do that would take several lifetimes, on top of the fact we don't know everything about it yet. :p It's going to have twitch-based combat, so if any of you are familiar with EvE online, it's not going to be anything like it. Twitch-based space combat, which means you can bust out a joystick and actually fly around like you would if you were actually in space. There's a lot of stuff in the game that is... well, extraordinary, but this is already becoming a wall of text, so check out the website if you're interested.
I'll leave you guys with a few things to read/watch in case this all does sound appealing to you:
These are in-engine videos. I can't say they're in-game, because the game isn't even in Alpha yet, but anything you see here is going to be even better once the game is built, because the programmer developing the game has updated the engine a lot since these videos were released:
Seamless planetary landing - first video released (the "worst" this game looks)
Testing volumetric nebulas
Planet and ring demonstration
City Test
Ocean, coastline, and sunset demo
Physics, motion blur, and planetary rings demo * Personal favorite
Galaxy model (just dots, stars haven't been rendered yet) Note: Watch in HD, otherwise it's going to be a blurry mess!
Wow, I remember reading about this game years and years ago. Glad to see it's still chugging along. It's an ambitious idea, and while the ultra-realism appeals to me, I don't know how fun it'll be.

Don't be surprised if it's nothing like you'd expect. There isn't any joystick support in the ICP (Infinity Combat Prototype), so it's only mouse and keyboard. It's also kind-of hard to find a server with people playing on it, because the developer that created it took the information that he needed from it and then stopped supporting it. :p
I think it's fun to test out the Newtonian physics and attack the CPU controlled battleships for a little while, though :D

Wicked! That alone makes this game worth looking into.

So it's going to be like Vendetta Online's combat? For those who've never played it, it's essentially a first-person shooter in space... interesting concept, but I've never seen anybody else try something like it. Really fun game, too, especially PvP.
I've been following this game for a while. The project seemed so ambitious that I figured the team would die out before release. Nice to see that it's still going smoothly!

This is probably the best video for the ICP. Also available in HD if you want to watch it on YouTube. It's fan-made, but it gets the job done. Note: One complaint I, and many people had is that they abuse the use of a shaky camera. Aside from that, it's very well done.
Also note: There's going to be more than just laser bolts in the final game as weapons, and there's going to be more colors other than red and blue :p
Hello TL. Like Vorce said, I'm also part of the writing team

In-game combat footage? Pshh, not for a while I'd say. You have to remember that only one person is doing all of the programming, so this isn't going to be released for quite a few years. For actual gameplay videos to be released; I wouldn't hold my breath. The closest you'll get to it, is by downloading the ICP. But even then, that isn't even an alpha version of the game. See what I mean? We have a while to go.
But still, don't let that put you off. There are plently things to do around the forums. If you are interested in modelling, composing, texturing, writing or enjoy giving feedback to other contributors, then jump right into it. If you like roleplaying/joining a corporation (EvE players) you can start flexing your RP muscles. You can ask questions and read what other people have asked, and get involved in the community in general. If you do join a corp, then playing on the ICP will be easier.
I think it would be pretty cool to see teamliquid members in game, or even a teamliquid corp. Unfortunately, I'm already part of one, so you've lost yourself a skill pilot
That's about it! Drop in now and then. Flavien (the main programmer) posts huge updates every threeish months about what he has been working on. He usually gives us some pretty pictures to drool at, but also very detailed analysis for the more hardcore and dedicated members.
Don't worry valt, we have a whole squad of F5'ing fanboys just waiting for an incosistency. I'm sure it has been fixed. If not, it will be before alpha.
