As for police and fire, half the cops in the country are diabetic (type 2) and there is the "American Disability Act", which I would check out if I were you. I'm fairly certain that simply having a disease can't keep you from getting in; this is why the medical examination is required, by law, to come after the written/oral/physical/background/polygraph/psyc evaluations in law enforcement. Where I'm from, the requirement is that you have a hemoglobin A1C below 7.0 for a consistent amount of time. I'm from SF, california, so you can't get into a fire department around here unless you are a black / hispanic / woman / lesbian anyway. But I imagine, in general, the diabetic thing is the same. It's legally considered discrimination if you're ineligible solely for being diabetic...but you have to prove you aren't a liability. | ||
