Yeah, I know, there have been a lot of them. However, I just finished Code Geass and I have some thoughts I need to share. If you've heard enough Code Geass BS please just don't read this. Here's what I thought.
Overall it was an entertaining but highly overrated series.
Things I liked: It's an action packed show that really moves fast. It also isn't afraid to kill off major characters and seems to enjoy doing so. Lelouch for the most part is a good protagonist, and without his Yagami Light tendencies he would be incredibly average. The Death Note moments are what makes the show fun; Lelouch always has a backup plan to kill everyone he meets.
Things I didn't like: The characters were all anime cliches and none of they had any real originality. There were a lot of moments when I felt that a character was completely unnecessary and had no point in the story.
Warning ending spoilers below:

I also didn't like the way the series ended. The series should have ended around episode 21 of R2 and yet Lelouch decides to randomly take over the world in like one episode. For such a huge world changing move it happens so rapidly that it almost has no merit. After which, they completely switched up the allegiances of all the characters, and it's difficult to keep track of who's fighting who. Even more unsettling , is the question of why these characters would switch allegiances so suddenly. But Code Geass is a show that follows it's own logic, you have to roll with it or you'll be swept away.
They also did a poor job of describing the other world Lelouch's father so sought after, but I assume that it's exactly the same as every other Other World from every other anime.
Finally, they really should have done a better job of explaining C.C's background, It felt really underdeveloped and probably more important to the story than the anime showcased. I think this would be an area the manga would probably explain more in depth.
Oh, and the mech battles got really excessive, especially near the end of the show.
If all this seems like I'm nitpicking, it's because I am. Really, CG isn't that bad a show. It was entertaining and I was never bored the entire time. Just don't go in expecting a masterpiece.

Are you kidding? Code geass has the best ending of all animes. It leaves you hanging with a possible glimpse.

I agree, Code Geass ending just actually made me shed some tears, it was beautiful. It just sort of had that perfect ending at the very last end.
I mean come on, who wouldn't like the best part of the last part where:
Orange-kun owning an orange farm picking oranges for the rest of his orange life.

Alot of those questions are actually explained in small parts of the anime. There's just so much information and action jam-packed into them that it's hard to pick them out and understand it all. I admit I asked a lot of those questions when I first went through it, but after rewatching some episodes and reading through wiki and sorts, a lot of those questions were answered.

I think the ending with that other world and Lelouch's father was probably the original ending that was planned. All the episodes past that felt like they were thrown in without much thought. It felt like the series could have ended three different fucking times. Fucking stupid.
However, I did think the final ending was good, though. Surprisingly, it tied everything up fairly nicely.
Otherwise, I agree. I would have liked more on CC, and I also thought Sunrise overdid it with the unkillable characters and mech battles they're known for towards the end.

But hey, think of the bright side, if Code Geass ended like 5-10 eps sooner, we would all have complained, whined, cried and etc for being it so short and fast..... I suppose the mech battles, some characters magically revived from the dead and all were for crazy fans who wanted to witness it like how Gundam Seed Destiny was just made....

Bad opinion and you are bad for having it.
Epic ending to epic series.

Yeah, I definitely like the ending they chose better than what feels like was the original planned ending. I just wish they would have planned it with the better ending from the fucking start...T_T.

I feel I need to clarify when I said the ending was bad. Yes, the ending worked. It did a very good job of wrapping up a lot of lose ends. I thought it was really cool how they copied the image of the parade right out of the first episode, that was really good. However, I didn't like the direction the show went in the last few episodes. Everything seemed rushed and convoluted.
You could have the greatest story in the world but it means nothing if it isn't told correctly. As it is now, Code Geass has a lot of failed potential.
Also, I agree with PH, I feel that the show's producers we're afraid of losing their Otaku audience and emphasized catering to them over producing something extraordinary.

Season 1 was a masterpiece. Season 2 was only pretty good, since I agree it wasted alot of potential.
|
I agree with everyone else the ending of season 2 made up for the fact that season 1 was better overall
that ending was just so good
I do agree that they should have given more background on c2, though
|
I agree with everyone else as well.
I think the end of the show was good- i was surprised a little, because I was expecting a travesty.. C2 definitely could've used more explanation, though the ambiguity was interesting as well.
Not enough battle damage imo. I guess I prefer a classic gundam style perspective, stuff blew up, stuff was damaged, and the tech leaps weren't so substantial, in other words - a glimpse of a real world and combat versus a weird world haha. In this show [and like Gundam Seed, destiny, wing, etc.], the damage all seemed useless if it did happen, and the characters would NOT fall, when they definitely should've lol. It came to the point where Cornelia and all of them coming back was so stupid obvious cause Sunrise just couldn't deal with their deaths, I guess.

the mech battles were much, much, better in season 1 though
they were like the number one thing i missed in season 2. i was kinda angry they turned the knightmares into super fighting gundams

Yeah. This is my complaint. Still in season 1 more people should've died. haha Barely anyone significant did. They just pretended to.

you guys think theyll keep it going for a season 3? =p

the characters looked freakishly skinny so i never bothered trying to watch this series
