What do Jaedong and swimming champion Michael Phelps have in common?
Michael Phelps rose to fame in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, winning 8 golds while also winning another 5 golds in the 2009 FINA World Swimming Championships, making a name for himself as the world's greatest swimmer.
Lee Jae Dong, on the other hand, has won special awards in Proleague, as well as being named the MVP and having several individual title wins, currently ranking #1 in the e-sports rankings for 5 months straight.
So what do they have in common?
Jaedong has great management and micro abilities, but behind all that, his concentration ability is considered the greatest. He also has his own trademark of having deadly looking eyes that seem ready to devour his opponent whole while playing a game.
Concentration - that is what these two people have in common.
Being young players, both Michael Phelps and Lee Jae Dong use music to help them relax their minds and increase their concentration right before their match.
It has been known that 3 to 4 months ago, Jaedong started to listen to Eminem's 'Till I Collapse' - a song Michael Phelps himself is known to enjoy and listened to before setting his world records.
In Jaedong's iPod, the musics in it are mainly of the hip-hop genre, including songs by Eminem, T-pain, Black Eyed Peas and many other artists.
Jaedong himself mentioned that ever since listening to music roughly 3 months ago, his concentration during matches have gotten higher, his results have improved and that it has helped him to keep his mind under control - a sign that music indeed helped him increase his concentration.
Jaedong is now in the Shinhan Bank Proleague 08-09 Season's Grand Finals with his team, as well as in the semifinals of both individual leagues - the Bacchus 2009 OSL and the Avalon 2009 MSL.

"Jaedong himself mentioned that ever since listening to music roughly 3 months ago"
what kind of human starts listening to music when they are 18? =/
edit: i mean when playing starcraft, dont tell me he was listening to the zerg theme all this time

I don't think they are allowed to listen to music while playing are they? I could see that getting abused...

Actually the music might help the athlete to get pumped up and the body releases catecholamines like norepinephrine, dopamin etc. These will put you into a fighting mode and heighten awareness. Phelps listens to music up until just seconds before his contests begin
You know, the fight part of fight/flight.

it's not the music, its the pink ipod
|
oh so he doesnt listen to it during the match?

JD is so proffesional. So many proffesional sports players could learn so much from him.

I listen anyway and so loud I can barely hear anything from SC. I always get drop raped but well it doesn´t matter in D level.
