I will check back at the end of the Beta if it feels better then. But right now? Dota is clearly the superior game (and i don't play on a very high level). How is Dota ''clearly the superior game'' when HoN is pretty much DotA updated for 2009? Can you reconnect when you leave a game in DotA? Is there a matchmaking service for DotA? Stats? Stats aren't a revolutionary idea. In fact they are more of an excuse for scrubs who thinks kills are everything to kick really good team players that enjoy playing support heroes. The shop interface of HON needs to be completely reworked and be made more dota-like, but give you the ability to purchase an item outright (i.e. buy a bracer already assembled if you can afford it). The contrast in the game is seriously fucked up - everything is way too dark, but shiny and obscured by post-processing effects. Not only contrast, but the interface as well. Blizzard games by nature have an interface that's as close to perfection as it gets in the gaming world. The problem with HON is that the interface uses different size icons for everything as well as different size fonts. Skill icons when upgrading are retardedly tiny. Item icons in the shop are retardedly big, while being too small when in your inventory. Also apparently damage and mana cost are less important than some shitty ripped off description, because they put it in the smallest font possible. The only thing clearly superior to Dota is the reconnect feature. The streamlined hero animations are nice, but by no means something to drool over. This game has potential, but it needs SO much work. I hope their devs are listening and listening well. Stats are only retarded if you let yourself judge people by their stats. Otherwise it's just another analyzing tool. And sorry, but the shop interface is just plain better, all your ranting is pretty much DotA ingrain, and you are in the process of being acustomed to something different. In DotA, I have to check the recipe, read the items ingredients, and have to find all those items by hand in 5 different npc shops while remembering all the names. In HoN you simply click the recipe, and you can buy all the items directly, not even mentionning the shop has hotkeys. Items icon size are pretty much the same size as the ones in WC3, again that's ''omg it's different I,m not yet used to it unlike DoTA which I played for years'' syndrome. On my first game of HoN, I had pretty much the same mindset as you had, I thought everything was way too small and placed in wierd spots (exp bar, lvl skills, gold) but after a couple of games I realized how much better and more streamlined it actually is.
um...duh? Because you're supposed to trust every low level player with bad stats that join your game? Get real.
And that second part is a bullshit excuse. You won't have trouble remembering the recipes if you play the game enough or just READ the item ingredients which takes about 2 seconds. It's not like you are multitasking so heavily in DoTA. Either way you have some fucking dumb reasons for how the game is better than DoTA. I think I'll listen to the guys who seem to know how to play these kinds of games instead of this bullshit.

It's a fun game dude. Who doesn't want a new gfx engine? Ofc there are a lot of balancing issues, but what I noticed is it gears itself a lot more towards offense.
They've done a lot of tweaks here and there to the heroes that make them a lot more fun. Like Levi for instance is piss boring to play usually. Buy some clarities, harass w/ gush, and last hit/tank etc. But in the HoN version instead of kraken shell, he gets a dash attack that does damage to anything in his path. Super cool. Dash in, then gush, then roflstomp on em. It's really fun. His ult's changed too, instead of AoE stun, now it's this whirlpool that opens up around him. And then you target the whirlpool to open somewhere else, and after like 2-3 secs everyone around Levi gets transported to the target and takes a ton of dmg.

I really don't like the whole graphic style..
Theres WAY to less contrast. Everything looks clean. The Item Icons look messy/overloaded. The camera feels to close.
Sure, loads of this stuff can change... But I just don't see why I should play this over Dota were the issues above aren't there?
With the new Shopsystem in Dota it also has become much easyer for *newbies*... But the reciepe/shopsystem was never the issue with newbies, it's that they 90% of the time build totally wrong items... (everytime I see someone going for Vlads as very first item I want to kill a kitten).

You're stupid. If you see someone with a good k:d, that only means they are either good at pubstomps are they plys as carries. Stats won't tell you if they play a good support, if they know where to place wards, etc. Get real.

How the FUCK does an EASIER ui navigation makes the game WORSE? You have no fucking. clue.

....
you are definitely some scrub DoTA pub player. When we mean stats we mean RECORD before the game even starts. There's a reason people with bad records get booted so what the fuck does playing carry heroes have to do with it?
And for your second part easier UI navigation is not the problem - it's you. You complained about having to keep checking recipe ingredients when that is not a function of the game but a function of your brain. Play more and memorize. That's a YOU problem not a DoTA problem. That would be like some idiot complaining that they can't build Marines from a Barracks because Blizzard made the font too small. Man up or GTFO.

Thats true. Even though on BNET you'll see all kinds of insane first item builds. I'll never forget the Pit Lord with blink dagger INTO enemies v_v

I hope you're pucking at Leagues of Legends, because's HoN graphic's style is pretty much wc3, with better shaders and higher polys.
Theres WAY to less contrast. Not really, adjust your monitor if there's a contrast problem.
Everything looks clean. That's a good thing.
The Item Icons look messy/overloaded. It's because you have 80+ new icons to have to fuckin learn at once. Of course you feel overwhelmed. After a couple games you start to memorize and ti because easier. Seriously you're comparing a game you probably played for years and one you probably played for days which you could count with your hands.
The camera feels to close. It's pretty much the same as wc3, even down to the view angle.
Sure, loads of this stuff can change... But I just don't see why I should play this over Dota were the issues above aren't there?
Because it's DotA not limited with the wc3 engine. This is DotA 2009 pretty much, not DotA 2. That's how I see it and I find the game fantastic. You can reconnect back in your games, you can filter game search to find specific game matches (shuffle team, SD, etc) there will be a DotA matchmaking soon (think wc3 ladder, only it's dota). One of the best thing is that everything is hosted by dedicated server, so no host advantage. Also one of the magic they done is that all your actions are instataneous, instead of that crappy 250ms built-in in Bnet. Not even LC hosts can come close to the level of responsiveness HoN has. The friend system is much better too, you can easily follow your friends in games, much like steam. There's plenty of little improvements that makes the game much more enjoyable.
With the new Shopsystem in Dota it also has become much easyer for *newbies*... But the reciepe/shopsystem was never the issue with newbies, it's that they 90% of the time build totally wrong items... (everytime I see someone going for Vlads as very first item I want to kill a kitten).
Yes of course the new UI shop won't magically give you skills, nobody said that. The new UI is just way easier to naviguate through once you know it, and with hotkeys buying something a recipe with lots of components becomes almost instant.

Support heroes doesn't get a decent k:d you idiot. Like I said, someone could be very good but stats doesn't show everything. People who judge by k:d are retarded.
And for your second part easier UI navigation is not the problem - it's you. You are essentially saying that a worse UI is better, and someone should ''man up'' instead of appreciating a better, much more streamlined one which have hotkeys.
GOOD JOB BRO.
|
ah ok you're not even reading my posts. Good job troll ^_^
There is nothing wrong with DOTA UI - it's YOU. Yes even people who play support heroes with bad records are get this - usually bad players. The fact you complain about recipes (lol) just makes it even more amusing.
|
You the one trolling, heck I'd bet if you even did played HoN, you played less than 15 games. Make no mistake I canbuy items just fine in DotA, but there's no denying the shop UI in HoN IS more streamlined and overall much better. That fact that you are still arguing is astonishing. How is a shoip with no buying hotkeys better than one with? How is a shop in which you can directly access and buy all the items by clicking the recipe worse than one without it? No matter how you spin, the HoN shop is plain better, and lets you shop faster.
|
I'm not even talking about the shop in HoN. I really don't care. I'm talking about YOU. You complained about something in a game which is not the fault of the game but a fault of you. You've missed this point like 3 times already.

The GUI is still horrible.
Learning skills, highlighting other units to check their HP/Mana, etc.

One one hand, there's a shop which there's hotkeys, and recipes ''hotlinks''. On the other hand, there's a shop that doesn't have either of those. Guess which one you can shop faster? You can cry ''ITS YOUR FAULT NOT TEH GAME BAWWW'' all you want. Fact is, someone who is fully accustomed to both system will find the HoN one much better and faster, no matter how you spin it.

While I agree that the second info window could be placed in a better area, it's very useful. You can check both your target's precise health and yours, at the same time. But more importantly, it means you are still controlling your hero (one of the nicest things; you never lose your hero control, even if you miscast or something).

I always thought a search box would be helpful for the dota style shop. Everyone says buy this buy that, and I still dont know where half the things are, and instead of standing there looking like an idiot, I could type "bra" into a search box and it would filter bracer etc. It would be so fast

That is in League of Legends (click the recipe and it buys everything) and thus making it a much more superior game to anyone who doesnt feel like searching the internet for item guides to play every new hero.
So far, HoN has a better engine/playstyle but League of Legends has 10000% better everything else. If they would merge, HoN engine with LoL everything else, it'd be a smash hit, yet both companies dont seem to catch on whats better about the other and adapt it.
So DOTA will still probably be the most superior of the genre, since neither of these two really want to take a lead.

hmm.. imo that doesn't matter because I've never experienced delay in dota one single time on my life (I only play on garena).
One big and nice difference is the graphic engine and the attack animations of the heroes which makes it much easier to last hit / moving shot
