Edit: Here in Texas you need to be at least 21 years of age to apply for a CHL or you can be 18+ only under certain conditions like being enrolled in the military.

Combine that with the fact that youll be arrested if the cops catch you with the gun, and I would say that the having that gun is not a good idea. Lol, we can only hope that the OP is smart enough to only pull the gun out if he is being mugged by someone without a gun.

Yeah, but then again you might be able to survive situations where you could be mugged, assaulted, or even raped

Its only when you get murdered that you don't survive Pulling out a gun is a very agressive move. Aggression is often met with more aggression. By pulling a gun, you've just bumped the severity of the situation up by a LOT. If we use an example of what most of us would be more familiar with, such as some asshole getting angry at you in a bar. If you want to avoid conflict, what is the best way to do so? Back off and try and seem as non-threatening as possible or to put your arms up and get into a fighting stance, hoping that he will back down? While there are exceptions, aggression is usually met with more aggression. If you pull a gun on someone and they are also armed, its very likely youll get stuck in a position where you'll have to shoot or be shot. The action of pulling out your gun could mean someones going to take a bullet whereas not pulling the gun, there is a relatively low chance that either of you will be shot.

Also, yeah, having a gun CAN make your risks go up, but these can be nullified if used in the correct way. Kennelie, yeah, I'm 19. Which is WHY I'm carrying illegally, because it's impossible for me to get a legal carry license.

TITLE 16. CRIMES AND OFFENSES CHAPTER 11. OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC ORDER AND SAFETY ARTICLE 4. DANGEROUS INSTRUMENTALITIES AND PRACTICES PART 2. POSSESSION OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS O.C.G.A. § 16-11-123 (2008) § 16-11-123. Unlawful possession of firearms or weapons A person commits the offense of unlawful possession of firearms or weapons when he or she knowingly has in his or her possession any sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer, and, upon conviction thereof, he or she shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of five years. HISTORY: Ga. L. 1968, p. 983, § 3; Ga. L. 2000, p. 1630, § 2. Short Answer: Five years. I'm pretty sure you fall into this category because the weapon is unlawfully obtained. Why are you out in those areas at night? You said you commute through those areas....During the day, and until relatively early evening there are cops out in said areas. You should only ever need a gun if you are out by yourself at night. I can't think of any reason you would have to carry a gun at 19 just cuz you commute through bad parts of Atlanta.
