I came back to my parent's house for my grandma's 80th birthday. From there, we drove out to my grandma's place where I was introduced to a new friend she made, who is also an 80 year old widow.
This woman is one of the craziest people I've ever met. She's like a non-retarded Forest Gump or something. She's the same age as my grandma, so 80 as well.
She was born in Korea, and is related to one of the royal families from one of the dynastic periods. She is also currently a very wealthy multimillionaire or something...
When she heard my mother studied piano at Peabody conservatory, she got excited. She has a masters degree in piano performance from JULLIARD and studied with VAN CLIBURN. She had a few CDs at my grandma's that she'd lent to her, and we got to listen to her play through Beethoven's Piano Sonata no8: Pathetique. At first I was just impressed by her playing. It was both technically and emotively strong. Then I later found out that that recording was from CARNEGIE FUCKING HALL...T_T
Around that time, she was a pianist for the New York Phil.
WHAT THE FUCK.
Then later over dinner, we heard about her husband, who was a physicist. Just to top things off, that guy was a lecturer or something at Princeton at the time Einstein and Oppenheimer or whoever it was were there as well, and he regularly worked with them while he was there. From there, he taught for a while at Tokyo University before settling down at USC.
Oh, and she also knows who John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess are. T_T
It was weird. These aren't even half of the stories she told since I couldn't keep up very well with their rapid-fire Korean, but oh man...from what I could pick up, and what my parents told me later, she is quite a woman.

thats hot.
when i listen to my grandma, all i hear is how much babies she had :/

That's a pretty astonishing life.
I would've reacted similarly.

my grandmother used to throw money at me every time i came over like literally throw it at me cause it was some funny joke to her 'throw shit at his face but he can't dislike it or be annoyed because its money too!'
it really used to always piss my parents off cause my allowance was 7 bucks a week and she threw like up to 50$ worth of 1's and 5's at me from time to time but she kept doing it because she thought it was funny that it pissed them off too
maybe thats why i'm so benevolent now

Ah the good kind of crazy.
I think my grandma is the bad kind of crazy. Maybe that's what almost starving to death in a war torn country does to you.

Man at first I thought you were implying that she was lying. If what she said is true, she is a genius married to a genius and congrats to her.

man... talk about power couples. what does the husband teach at USC? it better not be introductory physics -_-

She is a widow. Her husband passed away some time ago (I don't know when).
I highly doubt she was lying, though. Intelligence oozed out of her, and you could tell she grew up in that whole "modern aristocracy" kind of environment. However, she was still very friendly and talkative. Great company.
...And yes, I meant crazy in a good way.
Apparently she and my grandmother met at a physical rehabilitation center, where my grandmother was recovering from a hip injury. They began talking since they're coincidentally both the same age and are both Korean. She's been a good influence on my grandma, at least, which is a lol...her mannerisms and usual "old-grandma-ness" have all toned down a whole lot more, and she seems much more energetic and positive in general. I was surprised.
