So I was watching Best vs Stork and I found I really liked the music used for the intro as shown below:
So I youtubed the song "Divine Heresy - Failed Creation" and I found that the rest of the song really isn't to my liking. I suppose the more... melodic part? perhaps is my preference. Not sure how to really describe the difference between the rest of the song and the part used for the intro accurately in music terms.
In any case, for anyone perhaps more familiar with this genre of music could you recommend me some songs/bands that I might like?
I love that song too. Unfortunately, the melodic part is somewhat of a departure from divine heresy's normal music, so I couldn't guarantee that you would like the rest of their stuff.
As for similar songs.
Try out Killswitch engage, not a guarantee, but they do sound similar imo. (and also damn good)
Protest the Hero.
I will post more if I think of them.
Edit: In flames.
This one isn't really fair, because the melodic part isn't their normal singer, but I absolutely love this song.
Maybe something like Underoath? They don't really pump out the double bass, but they do a lot of singing/harmony stuff. They're def. softer than Divine Heresy though.
Maybe even something like Thrice, back in days of The Illusion of Safety.
Just guessing here, hope I helped. Maybe these bands will lead you to something that you're more into
But that was their old singer, and I personally think their new singer is...not as awesome.
example of new singer, still a pretty good song though.
Are any of these what you are looking for.
Sorry I got a little carried away, but this is my favorite genre, at least right now.
People might get on me for this band, so I am going to spoiler it, to confuse them. Muahahaha! + Show Spoiler +
Straight Line Stitch
It is a relatively new band with a female lead that sings 'clean' voice and 'growls'. That may not make sense to those of you unfamiliar with the genre, but just take it from me someone that can do both well is nothing short of a rarity. And she is female, and black, which are both also rare for the genre. That is why people might get on my for liking this band, because when somebody says they like SLS, people reply 'oh you just like them because the singer is a girl/black'. Idk, just preparing you.
^Cameo by the singer from Coheed and Cambria. (I think)
Alright, Now I am done for real, I have to go write a paper.
Wow, I thought the same thing when I heard the full track. I really like that part, but I don't have the musical "taste" to enjoy the rest of the song.
I can vouch for Killswitch Engage, great metalcore band. They are the only good metalcore band, at least in my opinion.
Blood Stain Child is also a great band, which I discovered thanks to Plexa.
They somehow incorporate trance to melodeath.
I can't really find more similar to just that little part of the song, but if I do I'll edit this post. (ps. I uploaded that intro video ^_^)
@pewpew: I'm going to look at the stuff you mentioned in just a moment, I had a friend that was into Thrice and I vaguely remember it sounding pretty good. Will give it another look, thanks. Edit: Didn't really care for the UnderOath song I sampled, any particular songs you would recommend?
@Lemonwalrus: Whoa, lots of stuff. - Killswitch: Already a fan. Killswitch was one of the first bands of this genre that I found and one of my favorites. - Protest the Hero: Seem a bit too "punkish" perhaps? I don't know, they sound sort of whiny. - In Flames: They seem to be a bit hit or miss for me. I found them first watching a Boxer highlight vid actually lol. Cloud Connected I believe was the song. The stuff you posted I like, definitely going to dig deeper. - Mushroomhead: Don't really like them that much, sorry. - Straight Line Stitch: I'm no stranger to female leads for music. I used to be pretty into Evanescence, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Epica, and Nightwish. SLS is odd in that the female does both the growling and clear singing parts and honestly I can't get into her growling stuff yet. I liked Remission more than Black Veil for that reason. I like her voice otherwise though, perhaps her growling will grow on me. I'm going through more of their stuff now.
@RealPenguin: Funny that you mention Blood Stained Child, I just started listening to them recently as well. I've been listening to Innocence by them for awhile, I like that song.
@Raithed: RJA is pretty catchy, I'll look into that. Although I'm forever going to associate that first song with TL Attack lol.

Sorry to bump thread without adding content, but holy fucking god thank you Realpenguin for making this post. (And plexa too I guess through transitive property.)
I probably never would have heard of these guys if it weren't for this post, and right now I have 16 of their tracks on repeat on youtube and it is making this all-nighter a bit more bearable.
Seriously, I just added a band to my top 20, I love them so much.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
Umm, this song was actually used as the intro to round 1 of the Shinhan Bank 2007 Proleague. So it's actually in the same vein as the Divine Heresy song.
Here's the intro btw, sorry if you've already seen it. Just adding it to maybe refresh your memory.+ Show Spoiler +
And here's the full song.
It's overall a little screamo, but I promise, there's melodic singing in it. At about 1:45 is the part I'm talking about.
