But if there's too much of a skill gap they sometimes place the expected strongest players against each other and the weakest against each other. In Major League round 1 is randomized and round 2 is King of the Kill. Ace match is randomly determined. The Moonlight pro league followed the same format as major. Mixed male/female league puts female vs female and male vs male.
Thanks for info! Just for clarification, is the super ace match also randomly determined?

I'd add that the ace is not always randomly determined. They usually have 2 options: to field the best performing player of each team on that day, or to draw randomly from the 4. Sometimes they add a 3rd option: the narak matchup - the worst performing player of each team is fielded. Obviously they use the randomizer to determine which option they go with.
A scene you very often see is Shuttle looking very dramatic while praying for himself not to be fielded for the super ace.

July ends with a K-League as some players headed for Saudi Arabia while others are participating in the new University League season

For this month, I manually recorded the results of each player in Major Proleague only, plus the few games they played between themselves if they met each other in K-League, so there is no K-League inflation (for players like Shuttle or JYJ) like in the previous months. In other words, the numbers in this table only reflect the power of the players at Major Proleague level.
At the top of the table are the usual suspects, Snow (67.3%) and Light (65.4%). The funny thing is their strongest matchups (PvT and TvZ) have taken a hit this month, but what put them in the leading positions are their mirror matchups: Snow with a 9-0 and Light with a 11-1 record in PvP and TvT, respectively. Understandably, Snow has the most MVP performance of the month (6) and Light as the second (4).
Third on the table is a surprising name, Hero (61%). Ha had been slumping all year long in the Major Proleague, placing second bottom in the 6-month table. The injury that sidelined him for almost two months turns out to be a good break to have him start again fresh, just in time for ASL.
Soma also had a good month at 58.3% in 4th place, while Bisu continued his streak of above-average-but-not-too-dominant, at 55.9% in 5th place. Meanwhile, Royal, Jaedong, Mini and Rush continued hovering around 50%. Soulkey and Queen took a slight dip to 46 and 44% but that's not so significant. In general, it's very hard to separate these players and any of them can beat the rest, and vice versa, on a given day.
This month, sSak was "promoted" to Major Proleague and his performance was not bad at all. At 42.9% and also some good performances in KCM, it doesn't make any sense that he crashed out of ASL qualifiers. Such a pity.
Shuttle at 37.8% is once again, consistently one of the worst players in MPL, but that's still much better than his fellow Protoss, Best, who has sunk to the lowest point this year (28.9%). MPL players maybe should start to balance out the two of them in different teams, otherwise no teams that contain both of them can expect to win anymore.
Lastly, without K-League inflation, you can see how far off JYJ is compared to the MPL players. To put it into perspective, sSak could lose all of his next 10 games and he would still be slightly ahead of JYJ. Best and JYJ should feel lucky that they got a seed to Ro16 of this ASL, otherwise I'm not sure in this form either of them can pass this superstacked Ro24.

Looks like Effort is ramping up his level by joining MPL in prepration for ASL

Hate to be a pester but is there enough stats on new maps to get a sense of balance yet? Not sure if there's a database tracking each proleague/kleague game per map. Seems like Invader is good for Zerg? La Campanella good for T? I'm just basing that on the few games I've watched though.

There are map specific stats but we're still at low sample sizes, and with low sample sizes, players like Snow and Light can skew the data too much. Will probably see true balance after ASL though.
By the way, game 6 of set 1 is bonkers.

Meanwhile Effort and Rain are back to K League

Light/Hero/Mini/Queen are getting like 40% more money.

Some players hit jackpot with the 5M Proleague after the qualifiers (Mini Light Queen Hero) and that's why they have the highest earnings. Best, despite playing terribly, just happened to be on the winning side on high-funding proleague days. That's the "beauty" of it

Does anyone have map stats for the ASL maps? We're thinking about adding some of them on SB but they all look terrible to me, how does Z win on these maps? Other than Retro and Poly none of the maps look balanced, Invader might be ok?
|
Data as of today. The PvT rate for the new maps is probably skewed a lot by Snow.

How do they look worse than some of those in the SB pool? Atleast they have normal mining and you can watch the best players in the world practice on them every single day to learn.

You mention mining but literally every map in BSL has good mining other than Winter Solstice 6oclock main (and this is mainly a bottom mineral formation issue), there's an update for that coming out soon. So what other maps are you talking about that don't have "normal mining"?
Also the BSL pool is out of our control, I do my best to help the map makers out with small improvements (to make things easier/faster for them). I make it a priority to have the maps meet a certain standard for SB tho.. funny enough that standard is mining and huge balance/bug issues.
