Pierce should give enough aoe to make it slightly less painful than melee builds, but it's not quite as powerful as the top builds. Gearwise it'll be interesting, forces me to look at a completely new set of items again. Also Wisdom, the new headpiece runeword seems good for that character. Pierce should be easy to come by. I would recommend Phoenix shield + warshrike and razortail.
You shouldn't be using a shield on a throw barb, almost every goes with double throw.
Throw barb's are really iffy though because they attack so fast and their items have such low quantities that you really need to stack additional in your inventory (Losing charm space), or go more of a hybrid build mixing in frenzy when you get low on stack.
I think Ethereal Lacerator's would be better than Warshrike due to the Amp/PMH for bosses and if you swap into using frenzy then they can also benefit from a value point into axe mastery, unlike warshrike which doesn't have a mastery. The problems with them though are the monster fleeing is actually a negative for your DPS, and if you opt to go a "pure" thrower, then they take up an additional 1 spot in your inventory.
The % chance to cast nova on warshrike can also lead to a DPS loss as nova and thrown weapons are both on the same next delay timer, so nova can trigger your throws to do nothing.
It can also be fairly hard to find ethereal versions of the throwing uniques, as most people won't even bother picking them up in the first place.

I forgot about CTC on warshrike. Does Laying of Hands also affect the delay timer on throwing?
Also I recommended Phoenix shield for the enhanced damage and redemption aura. Dual Throw is probably the way to go if sustainability isn’t an issue.
|
Don't believe holy bolt triggers it
|
Dual throw was the way I was looking to go, quantity shouldn't be an issue as maxed out throw mastery has 50+% chance to not consume quantity on throw and crits regen quantity.
The Warshrike - Nova interaction was new to me, the game has so much like this under the hood.

I think my bnet launcher is either shadow banned or bugged. I can’t join/create D2R games.
Also I received OW2 beta copy (I double checked if it was the correct bnet account) and it won’t let me load/install OW2 via the launcher.
Welps lol

Ok I finally could start making games as of this morning.
I’m trying out summon Druid for leveling and the changes are FANTASTIC. Nothing that I havent already experienced with mods but the raven changes to have more hit charges is definitely a nice QOL change. Spirit wolves doing cold damage is great too. I have no doubt that summon Druid can clear all content in hell (slower than most classes) but you won’t be limited by immunes most of the time.
Gonna make beast and enigma and try find a +6 Grizzly magic helm (is that even possible?). Anyways I’m having fun for now and I still occasionally toggle legacy graphics on cause it still looks good (only complaint is that it’s locked in 30fps).

Feels great to play again. I'm playing a necro with blood golem, bone spear, poison nova (using also bone armor, bone wall, confusion curse, corpse explosion and sometimes poison explosion or poison dagger, blind curse and attract possibly), actually gearing up with melee weapon + bow also and it's fun to play it's working well so far gonna see how it goes in hell. Around act 2 nightmare I was worried that blood golem is overbuffed in the patch cause he gives a lot of lifesteal now to himself + character and it seemed like monsters couldnt kill my character. But now it feels better. Gonna see how it goes.
Edit: Server disconnected shortly tonight => char ripped ^^ lvl67. Was fun, got quite some stuff stored away I think I'll start a ama next but sleep on it eh^^

I switched to fire ele and my clear speed is like 20x faster lol. Summon build for Druid is definitely viable but with very expensive gear lol. I’m scared I’ll eventually give in and switch to wind Druid when I want faster clear speeds(than fire) aha. Vicious cycle

I’m scared I’ll eventually give in and switch to wind Druid when I want faster clear speeds(than fire) aha. Vicious cycle You know I think this is a good thing because, if a pure summon build works out too well I think in most cases it puts into question the difficulty of the game cause if summons can win fights by themselves, it basically means the fight is an autowin. So if they buffed the summons in such a way that well you can get more tankiness out of it or maybe some extra damage but they die, then you have probably more ways to make hybrid builds that include summons and you have to be active to win the fights over in hell and I think that's great. I know at some point I took a druid to endgame and he was able to solo almost anything using wolves summons and 1 point bear already (as extras) so they were already pretty good. The biggest lack in the summons tree was the spirit wolves being useless if you had the next tier of wolves, now they have a use as extra extras at least (on top of the synergy points) so nice. The poison creeper and spirit of barbs (<= i suspect this one was meant for pvp??) also seemed useless in hell past A1 before. The crows were useful for blinding if you had a bunch.

Anyone playing hardcore? This is my first time, this is the most fun I've had playing D2 in a long while! It's almost like playing another game. It has a clear goal to it -> kill Baal on hell. And it's super tense.
Managed to lose a lvl 50 wind druid in nm just before Andariel But I'm now running a frozen orb / fire ball sorc. Just made the transition to hell and while it is scary it is doable. I play singleplayer and can only use items i've found myself. Got res maxed out, smoke, spirit sword, ancients pledge, lore. Rest is +life and +resist blue items.
Haven't farmed that much yet but I might need to now, run pits maybe? In dire need of FCR and FHR. Searching for a monarch shield to make another spirit.

i lost a lvl 60 something pally to rubberbanding before ladder release and havent made a hc character since. i enjoyed hc once in a while on plugy but with d2r having to play online all the time i find that the unreliability of servers isnt worth having the hc character.
|
I'm playing just about only HC. It's great fun and makes going through the difficulties feel like a good challenge, especially with less powerful builds. Online hasn't been too bad, but I lost a level 85 singleplayer druid last night, didn't focus properly and Diablo fried me with his firestorm.
I really wish there were a few more folks playing online HC, too. Trading items and getting group games going and so on seems so much more fluid on SC side.
|
I play only HC (since I switched to it) I love it. I didn't check SC recently but I think right now there is a lot of players on HC it's going well i think. Also I find it interesting and nice that there is a decent amount of characters dead at about any level, which indicates the difficulty of the game is in a decent spot : P (I'd tend to say normal and nightmare are too easy now) (I believe if one deletes their dead char it will stop appearing on ladder board, at least that seemed to be the case before). Unless they all ripped to server disconnect but I doubt that. Also generally seems pretty legit to me. Trading opportunities in game too. I think server connection quality is pretty good now. The disconnects seem rare but that one time it did and didn't roll back, hope it doesn't happen again : P
The main and I'd say only downside of HC compared to SC for me is you can't really do much regular pvp on it. I'd like it if there was an added option to agree to a non deadly fight.
Now my char is amazon lvl 70 using bow + javelin! I had thought of this but never did it before, javabowazon^^ Using immolation arrow, plague javelin, lightning fury, jab, multi shot, magic arrow/exploding arrow, lightning bolt (and.. throw : P). Actually dodged inner sight/slow missiles/decoy and valkyrie on this one so far she looks like she can take on hell A1 after ofc gathering some good gear. Pretty strong fun to play.

What are the folks here thinking about patch 2.5 and the new ladder start?
I'm thinking of HC again, with an elemental druid to start with, then making later on adding a pally or assassin into the mix. Still want to make the martial arts assassin that I ripped a couple of times last season. But my internet has been effectively down since Monday, so who knows when I actually get to play, maybe early next week.

i dont care for ladder but im liking the biggest change which is the sunderer charms. i think they did a fairly good job of balancing it, including the infinity changes, and it will definitely make gameplay more interesting for all classes now. its still the same grind but being able to go any map you want is such a good qol buff. honestly though i think my preference would have been to allow sunderer charms to be found and used at lower difficulties, in order to let new characters 100% hell with their build of choice rather than benefit from the charms only after they clear the game the old fashion way.

Terror zones are kind of cool, just opening up new areas to farm.
Sundering charms are alright, can make a few builds that were not the best to get a slight buff, but it isn't going to change what is meta, as the biggest buffs from it are probably going to Light Sorc/Cold Sorc/Java anyway, which are already among the top PvM builds.
Edit: Ah, just saw the comment about infinity above. Didn't realize they updated notes with a nerf to it. Still won't change the meta really, but I guess Light Sorc/Java don't get quite the buff that I thought. Biggest winner is probably ES/Orb sorcs?
|
Huhu I was going to play for ladder reset wondering what the date would be I was checking bnet launcher now just found out through d2jsp its today! Or tomorrow. Well I'm very likely to make a start I like the idea of terror zones, sundering charms sound ok since they also come with a big malus to resistance.

Blizz will still be the most used/effective between the two, but I have to imagine Orb is the one that benefits the most. They both get the same benefits from breaking immunes/CM, but orb/es gets the added benefit of minus resists not mattering.
