Alpha X is proud to announce the 2021 circuit of the Junior Championships. We’re excited to announce some big and excited changes to make this tournament more competitive and overall even more enjoyable.
First of all, if our aim is still to support Starcraft II rising stars, we have decided to extend the tournaments eligibility for 2021 to the 16 and 17 years old who did not earn any EPT point in the 2020 EPT circuit, and not only to the 15 years old and under, who can still compete.
The Circuit
We made some big changes to the circuit itself. We’ll have 9 tournaments during the year: 6 Regular Seasons (1 month and a half each to play), 2 Super Tournaments and one Global Finals.
The cash prize of those tournaments have also been significantly increased: each Regular Season as well as each Super Tournament will have a $200 cash prize, and the Global Finals will have a $500 prize pool.
Finally we are really happy to announce that this tournament is now partnered with the Online Sports Championships and will provide OSC points.
The Regular Seasons ($200)
Each Regular Season will consist of a 12 player GSL style tournament. The Top 4 from previous season will already be qualified in Top 8 of the next one, the Top 8 of the previous season in the Top 12 of the next one, and 4 players will join the tournament via qualifiers. There will be 5 casted play-days: 2 for the Ro12 (Groups A & B), 2 for the Ro8 (Groups A & B), and 1 for the 4 players Playoffs.
Each Regular Season will also grant 70 points for the Junior Championships 2021 Standings.
The Super Tournaments ($200)
Each Super tournament will consist of a one day double elimination bracket, similar to the one which was played in September 2020. Players who competed at least one season already but who reached 18 years old since then, although they can’t play in the Regular Seasons, can still compete in the Super Tournaments.
Each Super Tournament will also grant 140 points for the Junior Championships 2021 Standings.
The Global Finals ($500)
The Global Finals 2021 will take place at the end of the year. It will have the same format as a Regular Season, but the 2 Super Tournament winners as well as the Top 10 players from the Junior Championships 2021 Standings will be invited to the tournament, with the Top 4 going directly to the Ro8.
