"but, but, but Ukraine isn't in NATO" is only an excuse if you want to play dumb about the relationships between USA, NATO, Ukraine, and Russia.
A united NATO with USA backing is the only thing that could deter Russia from further adventures in Ukraine. Maybe, and only maybe here, if the USA stood with NATO and NATO moved more standing forces eastward, Putin might get the message that his adventures are drawing too close to a line. By Trump ensuring that NATO will remain divided, weak, and without USA support, Trump makes sure that any timelines where Putin has to fear a NATO response never occur.
Trump blasted NATO 4 hours after the boat news broke and hasn't said anything since. Finland, Ukraine, Montenegro, and other not-NATO countries heard the message loud and clear even if you want to pretend you can't hear it. Just to be super clear here, the message is:
USA and NATO will not unite and confront Russian aggression in Eastern Europe.

If you look back at the Republican National Convention and the one thing that the Trump campaign changed about the platform, it is clear that this has been planned for years.

I would not take Trump's Nato comments too seriously. NATO allies can deny military bases, information and worst of all; refuse to buy US weapon systems.
There was a huge NATO military exercise in Norway recently, amd the US even sent an aircraft carrier. If Trump suggests pulling out of things like that, we have more reason to worry.

Unions tend to lean democrat, but it is hard to say in this election. Trump pandered to that voter base hard, while having zero ability to give them the things he promised. He promised that GM would tear down factories to build new ones in the US, which isn’t how this shit works. They do shut down factories to build new ones in other countries.
The auto industry is going to take it in the teeth for a while. No one wants new cars at the prices they exist at right now. And people are making long term decisions based on there being a recession.

I think a big thing is a lot of democrats, especially at a high national level, more or less ignore the unions as a political talking point. But then you also get people like Sherrod Brown who do a lot of labor work. Given the right's love of things like right to work I think unions do still lean democratic, but it's a weak relationship because the dems aren't offering much either. That and unions have been pretty heavily gutted so a lot of people who would be in unions historically aren't anymore and I could imagine a lot of people voting against their union interests if their unions are weakened to the point of being ineffective.

My father is an Irish Democrat through and through, raised in a union family. But even he didn’t like unions. Especially because he owned a business and generally treated his employees well. He hated strikes and always said they were just a form of blackmail. My mother as well. I don't think they ever experienced a strike, but they dislike them for reasons.
Over the holiday we talked about politics and the teachers unions in the state banding together. Of course both of them were for better education, but didn’t think a strike was a good idea if it came to that. Both of them are nearly retired and a teachers strike would have zero impact on their lives, but they would still oppose it principle. My wife and I supported any strike and thought more professions should unionize to protect themselves. My mother was truly shocked and asked why. My wife told her “We will never be you two.” The more we dug into why they opposed unions, the less they could justify disliking them.
The boomer generation was feed a steady diet of anti union/labor propaganda through the 1980s and 1990s. Much like racism was a thing of the past, labor issues were resolved and unions were not something we needed any more.

But it is a odd thing because many people want them, but a large portion of the people working in them are quite unhappy. It will be interesting to see if unions are able to adapt and bargain for the changing work world and work force or disappear. Golden handcuffs is a thing in non-union companies, too. It's called vesting, and it's basically bullshit where a company defers paying a worker some money until some period of time after the work that earned it.
Actually, your post is the first time I've ever seen anyone talk about golden handcuffs being a negative thing associated with unions, and I couldn't find anyone else talking about it in a few minutes with google, so more information on how unions lead to golden handcuffs would be appreciated.

Not so much golden handcuffs, but the Longshoreman union in CA does layoffs from new hires up. Source - my dad who has worked there for 35+ years

It's not a negative if you choose to stay with a company as you have chosen to do so as you get a lot more money, but have to tolerate your work collegues that you wouldn't had otherwise, whilst being prtoected by a union.
The other alternative would to simply not have that benefit.
If people want flexibility, the point of unions to to help enable that flexibility, rather than being forced to work unfavourable hours or at a moments notice for fear of losing the job. There are negatives for workers in a union, but you haven't mentioned them.
