(source: http://kotaku.com/381003/fileplanet-presents-the-age-of-conan-open-beta ) by Patient at 08:03 PM on 04/17/08 Reply by Email * To summarize the crappy planning of these AoC events more clearly: -Fileplanet Open beta- You must be a Member of Fileplanet (Paying customer) to participate. It claims that it is only $3.99 a month, but you a billed for a segment of $15.00 I believe. You can only level up to level 13. -Gamespot PvP weekend- There are 4 2Gigabyte files you must download Using Gamespot's Downloader application. The files were put up 1.5 days ago. The event start tomorrow. Now that wouldn't be a problem, except that if you are not a Member (Paying customer) of Gamespot, you will only see speeds of 50k - 100k a second. So you basically are forced to be a member to unlock the high speeds in order to participate for a 2 day event. If you don't you will be finished downloading by the time its over. What I am trying to say here is that these two companies have turned what used to be a fun and exciting part of a game's growing pains into a greedy circus act that really has done more harm than good for fans and new interested parties alike. Funcom is to blame here, there are still tons and tons of people on their very own forums that have been around since 2005 that are really frustrated with the lack of communication and really sleazy events put together. If they can't even make their betas run smoothly and treat their fans properly, how are they going to run a MMO? Reading this forum kind of explains what I am talking about. Its absolute chaos. | ||
