This is my first blog post in over a year! Some of the regulars may remember my series of posts over a year ago documenting my journey to get fit. I stopped blogging because it took too much time but I didn't quit and I have achieved my goals!
After ending my blog posts I suffered from a long illness that lasted until Christmas which eroded much of the progress I had made. Then in January I started to hit the gym hard.
In June I completed the Camino de Santiago a 815km hike across Spain and yesterday was accepted into the British army as a reservist with the hopes of going on to attend regular officer selection in a little over a year.
My trip to Spain put a lot of things into perspective, we have one life and have to make the most of it. So many of the older people we met on the journey had so many regrets. People constantly rush though things without ever stopping to think about what they are doing. They go through school, get a job, have a family and die. We used to work to live, we now live to work. I want a career that can make a difference to peoples lives, I want to be able to look back when I'm old and smile.
Just 18 months ago I had just failed my AS levels ( first year of college 16-17), was under 55kg and had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Now I have finally reached my first set of goals. I am now 75kg, got some good qualifications and have passed my army medical/ fitness test. My gap year is now over and I have come so far. I have decided against university and will continue to travel/ work and train hard next year in preparation for my end goal. A place at Sandhurst military academy.
The Journey to success is a long hard road, the most important thing is to find out what you want and do anything to get it.
I may no longer play Starcraft ( moved over to poker ) but I will never forget where it all started here on TL and how everyone I have met through gaming formed me into who I am today.
Looking forward to a well deserved break, I suffered a calf injury about a month ago which reoccurred during my timed run at selection. I pushed through but now 24 hrs later I can't walk!
Thanks guys, don't give up on your goals and go for it.
Failure is a choice.
