Human, Dwarf and Elf.

Just checked the main website, you totally can be a Qunari.

Oh I see, interesting. By the way, will there ever be mods? I loved using Nexusmods for DAO and DA:I has a lot of flaws that players could fix easily, similarly to how they did at Skyrim.

My guess is there will never be mods for the game, as its a Frostbite 3 Engine game, (BF4 engine). Disappointing to say the least.

There will be mods. They will just be very different from what you expect and much more limited than we are used to. See for example http://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/2nmux3/now_it_feels_like_da1_daino_spoilers/
Once pirates crack Denuvo mods should be able to do more since you can then modify the exe as well.

anyone tried 2H dps in nightmare?
despite what people said, my dual dagger rogue is wrecking things even outside the elixirs. mage freeze into twin fangs into deathblow is pure death, plus it sunders armor and restores stamina. red elixir is 3-4 twin fangs, blue elixir means i can attack berserkes and wyverns and all those annoying shit enemies.
Squishy enemies die in 2-3 seconds in nightmare and have zero chance, its just like in Origins except i need a mage to do the stun for me.
My archer on the other hand fucking sucks, all the time something stupid is in the way and the full draw shot misses. Or the melee fight floated into his direction and now the longshot does no damage. If Sera wasnt so fun, i would replace her with Dorien.
Also, Rift mage Soras with the fire passive where spells can not have a cooldown is a nightmare for the enemies. AE CC spam plus debuff plus ae damage plus setting up combos for my rogue. Oh and barrier.
|
Yeah I'm not really happy with my archer Rogue. The opener is sick, I think that's Full Draw? But after that the dps is rather meh.

Is anyone playing this on PC with a 3rd party controller? The game will only recognize xbox controllers as far as I can tell and the protection on the exe file prevents me from re-mapping my controller. So if I want to play with my usb controller the game thinks L1 is A and there is no start...
|
For your archer to really shine, you need to grab the passives from the melee trees as well, like the +crit on back/flank hits and such. They work for ranged too, you'll pick up some useless melee skills on the way, but oh well.
|
Late game 2 hander reaver warrior is ridiculous. The last boss just got brutalized by iron bull even on hard mode. Spam dragon rage, and heal up when ur low. Rinse and repeat.
|
You fix the dps from the archer with your specialization, and yes, you need to micromanage him. But full drawn shot + mage/warrior trigger combo means basically one enemy down at range. Seriously you can't complain about the archer needing to be micromanaged when you are comparing it to a rogue lol. Obviously the rogue dual weild does more damage in combat, but the archer doesn't need to deal with AoEs, knockouts, etc, giving you room for more damage in other classes.
To be honest, the best party composition for me is 1 handed + shield (my character), archer + 2 mages. The mages give a lot of aoe due lightning combos, good nuking (lol fire mines), control and barriers. The archer meanwhile provides good damage and combo triggers, and artificer gives you more control and passive buffs to the party.
About the 2 handed warrior on nightmare, it starts really weak, i haven't got far with him yet (lvl 8) and i really have to plan better the skills with him. Whirlwind is insane with knockout powder tho.

what difficulty do you guys recommend a former DA:O player to start this game on?

There are programs that make the computer think your PS3 controller is a Xbox controller, so I guess there may be options to do the same thing.
I don't play DAI though so I can't even say if a PS3 controller can be used that way due to DRM issues

shock and weakened somehow combine to a combo that triggers sleep btw I think you need weakened+shocked and then the next weakened will trigger some combo that also sleeps, indlucing slowmotion and everything.
makes the riftmage even stronger.
Also, i mirco all my guys, the archer just doest do it dor me it seems.
I recommend nightmare difficulty with friendly fire off. The new guard mechanic makes tanks very stable, especially a champion tank with guard and a mage in party will be very stable, so you need high difficulties to get excitement. In origins your tank could get bursted down or your healer could get overloaded by party wide damage.
Friendly fire off because its just annoying in this game, melee swings etc can cause AE damage, arrows from your archer can hit you for no reason and mage skills are basically random in which ones are FF. They made the game weirdly similar to darksouls, meaning very hitbox reliant in an engine that wasnt made for RPGs it seems. Melee combat is just a weird floataround.

Well I only clocked 55 hours with main story finished, 7 dragons down and all Inner circle quests that I found done.
I did end up playing it like a action RPG as a Knight Enchanter at some point though, probably speeds things up.

I'm over 60h and just 4 dragons down (the one in Storm Coast owned me badly so I guess I gotta level some more, am lvl 17 now) and not even far in the main story. But I got most zones full cleared by now. And I also didn't use the internet for tricks, so I had a few things that cost me time, such as treasure maps and 1 Astrarium.

I would recommend FF on on NM, so you'll understand why archers aren't such a bad idea. Turning FF off simply boosts everything your melee dps does, because you get to skip worrying about them quite a bit and your mages can go bonker nuts in combat.
Anyone who has played games like baldurs gates should definately just go NM FF on to get any challenge out of the game.
I had over 60 hours on my first playthrough (that I restarted) with 1 dragon down, then I figured I want to redo my inquisition perks and make a character that doesn't look like an ass.

Stealth + Full drawn = One shot stuff
Take that as soon as possible, you will thank me later. The good thing about the archer is that you can instantly burst down somebody. Yes, the burst doesn't come as often as the dual weild rogue, but it definitly hits harder (1,5k full drawn are not rare at low levels for example), as you had killed two enemies (long shot + shatter combo too) you basically have the combat in the bag already.
And then are those annoying enemies to play against with the melee. Envy with the dual weild rogue i felt completely useless hehe.
But to be honest, once you get used to the game, i think you can play whatever you want on nightmare, i think more than argueing about "what´s better", we are just discussing how to play/spec each class.
@Daemir that's next, but first i want to get a real feel of all the classes/specs, to choose. I am not that brave.

But I think for the next playthrough which will be on hardest difficulty at some point, I will not full clear the zones and try to find every chest as that's pretty bothersome sometimes. Especially don't like the search button on gamepad on LS which kinda needs to be spammed to not miss things which is rather ugh.
But I specially wanna wait for the patch which helps the PC controls. Last time I checked they said they're working on one, and I really hope they do.
