60fps in stressful moments on overclocked Haswell is a thing, but with the motion quality of sc2, that 60fps actually feels like ~35-40fps - it's nowhere near solid 144. You can tell the difference between 180-200fps and 300fps in the sc2 engine with a 144hz monitor, blind test, because the frametime pacing is so bad. With perfect pacing, there would be no benefit over 144fps@144hz - many games need 150, 160fps for you to see no noticable gains from higher framerates, but sc2/heroes you need way, way more. At least 1.5x refresh rate (90 on 60hz, 216 on 144) That being said, it's AWESOME for blizzard games because they (WoW, sc2/heroes, probably diablo and others) decouple mouse input from the framerate of the game, so your mouse will ALWAYS have the latency, smoothness and snappyness of 144hz. However that's only like, 2% of your screen. It's very important, but i honestly didn't notice it until i played games that lacked that feature. A huge majority of my games, as well as desktop use, benefit a lot from increasing refresh rate by 2.4x. If i could choose between 240hz 1080p or 144hz 1440p, i'd still probably go with 1080, because i can't imagine those performance gains stopping, even if latency would only drop by a few milliseconds

Removed the second part of my question because my tv is 120hz so I don't have to worry about that matching

When I play games, I usually have my main display copied onto my 1080p tv, will this still be possible if I change the resolution on my monitor? Yes AFAIK but a few concerns would be 1440p not scaling down great to 1080p (so your swift would either be stretched and kinda blurry, or ~43.5% of the screen would be black bars, if you were running it at 1080p) and i think the swift has only a single displayport input if that's relevant at all

EDIT: meant 24inch for first one not 22inch
