i play it like i played DA:O, which means no AI and pausing every half second. The game is even more set up for this as blocking/parrying is now active and powerful if you time it, the guard instead of heal mechanicand the combo spells that now require different classes to work together instead of one class using 2 spells.
However, the controls are for console, even with mouse, so it takes longer to set targets than it did in origins, its a minor annoyance for me.
Most play this like an action game indeed, but so did they with Origins.
I play a nightmare party that is not abusing anything broken and i think if you play like that, you need to play it like baldurs gate because you need optimal performance from the whole party and the AI would not do that, especially melee AI would just soak up all your potions.

So it's either action game or tactical rpg with broken controls ? :/

I play it like an action RPG and it's a lot of fun. I sometimes use the tactical mode to reposition the ranged AI though. Only fight so far where tactical mode was required was the first Dragon I fought (Hinterlands one). I think I killed it a bit soon though (however I couldn't kill it when I first met it), would probably not have been possible at hard/nightmare but I like the chill gameplay at normal.
Plus I'm not a fan of too much manouvering with the gamepad. At Dragon Age Origins I was pausing A LOT too, and I liked it. However I just couldn't get myself to use the tactical mode with a gamepad and the keyboard + mouse controls just aren't good.

There's no way I could action game this on my nightmare/FF on play, if I don't micro the tank she just gets eaten alive. If I don't nail that dispel in time, someone is going to burn to death. Just cleared a mine that poured about 15 lvl 12 spiders at me, when most of my group was level 10. Took some precise timing and positioning with Ice Wall to keep the numbers such that my tank didn't get insta killed. I got the feeling something about the spiders and respawning bugged, that was the first time I've been swamped in so many things at once.

i like the tactics concept...except it doesnt work. i tried using it to optimize the battles, especially for engagements but i stopped after a few tries because of the horrid camera reset when changing characters.
also, i'd like it if they did not limit camera views when on mount, takes away from being able to view the world and can't see when going up hill.
a simple cheat, though i havnt tried but heard it works, will try when im back home: change system (computer) time to finish the war table quests.
tip: dont switch character when your followers seem to be missing, you'll just teleport back to where you were, where they're stuck at.

There are a few points where I used tactical camera, and that usually is based on a convenient geographical feature I happened to notice such as a choke point, or if the enemy was very obviously bunched together. Most of the time, it I just pew pew and spam everything. If you want to play the game tactical, you'd probably have to be really strict with who you choose as your party members and what skill tree they develop. I'm currently on my first playthrough, so I just randomly pick people I happen to want on my party at the time. If you're gonna play it the brain dead style, melee class is the most bang for your buck imo.

Ive only used the tactical camera on the hardest battles and not that much, i think the AI does a great job.
Im really liking the game, running around doing mindless quest its really fun

actually, if you play tactical, you have free party composition because instead of playing 1 guy well, you play all 4 well. you can play without barrier, you can play with dagger rogue or 2H warrior on nightmare no problem.
No need to have a broken knight enchanter build in your party for nightmare or similar shenanigans that other people like to spread.
Also, the appereance editor is treacherous, the lightning or something is weird and i restarted 4 times after seeing myself in the first cutscene and looking like an alien zombie. I still look ugly, but i wanted to play the game lol.

Playing this on the PS3, this is an awesome mess so far.
The game play is a lot of fun and I'm having more fun than I expected with the story.I really enjoy the combat. Characters are decent (Cole is my fav) and I really like the war table and everything it offers. Sooooo much content.
Having said that, it is still a mess of a game. Very unpolished. It is clear to me this was rushed by EA. The result is a game so buggy and glitchy that it makes Bethesda games look bug-less. Constantly have sound dropping out, the game has frozen 3 times on me, load time are MASSIVE and too regualr, lip sync is some of the worst I've ever seen and the textures are often weak.
I imagine this is a result of it being on the PS3, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating or inexcusable. Those are hardware issues. Gameplay wise I can't imagine who put these controls together. The controls are garbage in this game. Gallop is L3? Are you fucking kidding me? I also am not a fan of a lot of the combat trees. Necromancer and Templar in particular were a huge disappointment.
Overall I'm enjoying the game in spite of the unpolished mess that it is. Gameplay and story makes it worth playing.

To be fair, loading times arent exactly short on PS4 too, they are often really long !

Turn Meshes in graphic options to high and restart the game, plastic hair gone.

Lipsticks and make ups overall look fugly as well, but to be honest, I did not sacrifice much of my time to get into it. I'm sure there are some cool combinations, but I miss the easily accessible dark lipsticks, which doesn't make my char look like a hooker.
On the other hand, female hair no.2 is very cool, so I'm rocking with that one!

Nouuuu! I plan to play my Inquisitor as a chantry-believer (fanatic, if you like), so I figured templar might fit her the best.

Pretty much, im playing on Normal, and have only needed tac cam maybe twice, mainly to just pause for a sec and drink some potions, normal can more or less be played as an action game. Which is fine with me, once they get tac cam sorted out, ill probably try hard/nightmare, but right now i couldn't imagine enjoying hard/nightmare, i would just get frustrated as hell. And im someone who doesn't mind a challenge, i love Dark Souls 1/2, but someting about tactical mode to me just seems tedious, but i suppose if they added the ability to zoom out more, and box units, etc, id give it a go.
That being said, im 25 hours in and feel like i just ended the Tutorial rofl. Game is massive in scope and starting to really like the characters. Especially Bull, man Freddy Prince Jr. really did a phenomenal job with this character, im glad to see him being used again and showing he can be a great voice actor. Frankly all the voice over in the game is really good.
On that note- + Show Spoiler +

Okay, silly question, but how do I walk in this game? My char seems to be always running, and when I press shift nothing changes.

THe game is addicting, but it really bugs me to think what it could have been.
I won't beat on them for their "tactical combat", as that horse is already dead.
But who designed that crafting system? That is so stupidly half-assed. If my minions use an item i want to upgrade, i need to strip the item from their cold dead hands, like Bianca from Varrick, and i need to do this before i travel to Haven. Then i upgrade it and then i give it back to him afterwards. wtf? how stupid can a game be? And on top of that, i can't even compare the items they wear with thos i had in my inventory if i am at Haven. uaaaargh.
Some people say, they are impressed how well the game reacts to you building your army and how grand it feels. I have to say, i feeld the opposite. The power you gain from doing stuff is a number. One that i can't even use. I mean, great, i can see that i am liberating parts of the map when i complete quests and my people occupy it, but all the rest is gaining a higher number. All those gathering quests are even more stupid. I can improve the Inquisition by Iquisitionboni, but all it does is improve my group with marginal boni. Tell me how big my army is, show me troopmovements, make it a real minigame with armies that battle each other. It probably will be like most Bioware-.games, in that you gather virtual boni that sound like progress and in the end there is a huge battle and the game will tell you that only because you did 5 things, you were able to win. When in fact you had done 22 things it just ignored because they were not needed. Oh, you did all these other things as well resulting in a bazillion more men then you would have needed, oh well, same difference. I actually looked really forward to have an RPG and half a strategy game combined in one, but i having 60 power at level 11 is much more meaningful then actually having content
Still, the game is good, just not that good.
