Fun thing to note: Inovation is the first player to place secend in a GSL and then win a GSL later gratz to him!

MMA did it too, if you count the super tournament as a GSL.

I guess you're also only counting players where that win was their first win? Because Mvp finished second in a GSL (to MMA) and later won (against Squirtle) but he'd already won before he finished second.
Edit: Also while we're on the subject of history, soO now has the record for most second-place finishes in GSL tournaments (previously he was tied with MarineKing who finished second in GSL Open Season 2, GSL Code S 2011 January and GSL World Championship 2011).

Great writing make me wonder if destructicon and I watched the same games >< and soO... just... pls win another silver at blizzcon

This is not true. soO went for a 1-1 roach build. Lair (to get out a fast roach speed) into double ranged upgrades and a roach warren. Additionally he cut zergling speed completely in the early game. There were no banelings or speedlings involved. This would have been a mass roach build, no zerglings or banelings involved.
Indeed. The lair first (before warren !) is a... hint.

When I saw the topic I hoped ther would have been a "like a bus reference" Don't know why, Finals felt like that too me.

This tweet is so heartbreaking. Perhaps one day he'll get a first place finish. Global finals... and then he will lose to the least expected person to win, say jjakji or san

This just in: GSL's decision at the start of this year to decrease the runner-up prize pool and increase the champion prize pool was made by Mvp as the ultimate revenge against soO.

Honestly, the recap makes me remember how weak the games were overall. Only game 6 was decent. I don't mind some cheese here and there, I even welcome it (hello Mvp vs Squirtle game 7) but 5 allins in a row is a pretty dumb sight.
Well, at least I can pretend that the players metagaming each other was "soooooo smart"

Zest and Dear to SKT1 confirmed.

I told you guys long time ago that this GSL was Innovation's for obvious reasons
Jokes aside, I really wanted Soo to win, I like that guy so much and 4 consecutive GSL finals and all 4 being 2nd places... I wouldn't be able to live with it if I were him. Hope he doesn't give up nor go into a slump. Gogogo the Silver Surfer!

I actually hope soO can begin to build himself around that unprecedented amount of silvers. If he manages to build a character or a public image as "the silver surfer", maybe in the end he'll get some recognition and will overcome that mentally crippling loss. But as it is, it's really disheartening to see him never managing to climb that last step. Imagine he loses in finals in Blizzcon to boot...

God, I don't even like soo but this is hearbreaking. 4 times in a row Code S finals is unprecedented and the only thing he will be remembered for is failing in the finals .

Isn't this story of soO kinda the same as the story of Jaedong last year? JD also had multiple 2nd places and even finished Blizzcon in 2nd :/ I hope soO gets 1st if Jaedong gets knocked out of Blizzcon by Scarlett/Pigbaby/HerO (due to winning WCS AM). If JD stays in, I'm going to smash my Keyboard just to support him to get 1st!

What you're saying is right but the big difference between JD and soO was 4 consecutive runner ups (6 if you count dreamhack and proleague) in the year. JD was second place across several tournaments in a span of about 5 months.

I agree they're similar, but soO's story is much more amazing than Jaedong because he's playing in Code S. Making it to the finals of assorted foreign tournaments multiple times is impressive, making it to four Code S finals four times in a row is insane. Jaedong was a huge fan favorite but no one thought he was the best Zerg in the world in 2013. soO almost certainly IS the best Zerg in the world in 2014, which makes his streak all the more amazing.

Talk about revisionist history, plenty of people thought he was the best zerg, and coming second in that wcs finals thing they did after every tournament is arguably more impressive then coming second in gsl.
