ok guys so I am at it again shopping for new keyboard. Things have changed since my last one and I don't have friend helping me ordering stuff from overseas so I am pretty much stuck with whatever available locally here in Singapore, which tbh has kinda limited options.
So I am looking for a full size keyboard with MX Brown switch, with durability/quality probably at the top of the priority list. Other fanciful stuff like backlit, media keys, macro keys are not a must have/ must not have, but at least 6KRO on USB mode i guess (since my laptop does not have ps/2 port and I play quite a number of random games that need a lot of key pressed) so I am kinda on the edge and have found the following options:
1/ Filco Majestouch 2 @ 200SGD (I will probably try to find the banana version aka yellow keycaps of this)
2/ Ducky Shine 3 @ 200SGD
3/ CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate @ 160-170SGD
4/ CM Storm Quickfire XT @ 130SGD
(1 USD ~ 1.25 SGD)

What games require you to press more than 6 key simultaneously? I'm very curious, because 99.99% of the time users do not need 6RKO or NRKO. It's just something companies can add to their list of "features" when marketing.
Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure most mechanical keyboards these days offer 6KRO on USB now so even if for some reason you needed to press 6 keys simultaneously often you shouldn't run into any issues.
Also do you not like the USB to USB cable on the XT? At least that's how I interpreted your last sentence. Or do you prefer a hard-wired cable like the Corsair K70? Or perhaps you don't like the braided USB cable that CM uses as opposed to the plain cables that Filco and Ducky uses?
I had the XT for a bit before gifting it to a friend and it seemed as solid as my previous mechanical keyboards. You shouldn't have any issues with durability/quality. As aforementioned, I'm not sure if it's 6KRO but I'm willing to bet it is. I'm not sure where you read about media keys not working and it being 4KRO...bit interested in seeing where you've read that. If you're still looking at the Filco though, I know for a fact it's 6RKO on USB and NRKO on PS/2.
Filcos are great, but CM's keyboards are arguably on par with Filco's quality. Both Filco/CM keyboards have used Costar for manufacturing so their build quality is more or less the same (XT was produced by Costar, not positive on the Ultimate). These days there are less people with Filcos since their pricetag is on the same level or are higher than other keyboards which offer the same thing but more. Still it's not a bad keyboard. Although with the Ducky Shine 3 at the same price, I would rather purchase the Ducky over the Filco if I were the one to choose. If you don't mind spending the extra money that is...but if you want to save some more I'd suggest the XT.
I'm not sure if the CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate was manufactured by iOne (they manfactured the previous model of the Ultimate for a while, the Quickfire Pro). If they did, I'd probably avoid it since their quality is a little less to be desired...I'm speaking from personal experience of having the CM Quickfire Pro and TK (both produced by iOne). Their quality compared to CM keyboards like the Quickfire Rapid and XT which were manufactured by Costar were noticeable. It has non-standard bottom row keys anyways, so if you ever wish to replace the keycaps in the future you'll have some difficulty in finding replacements. It's similar to the Ducky in terms of backlit features, but it lacks the individual backlit key customization and some of the fancier backlit features that the Ducky offers if that sort of stuff bothers you really.
If you somehow managed to read my wall of text and still have any further questions feel free to ask them and hopefully I can answer them to the best of my ability.

Mechanical Keyboard noob here. I'm looking for a keyboard under 100 (because I'm a student) and I've looking around NewEgg, BestBuy (online and in store to get a physical feel). The only ones I've come across is just the usual gaming ones like Razer Black Widow Stealth, Tte Poseidon, etc... I've actually played with my friend's Tte Poseidon and it doesn't feel that bad (plus a num pad is a +). Can anyone give me a suggestion of whether I should buy the Tte Poseidon or are there a better choice for mechanical? (I pref Cherry Brown Switch because I live in a house with 5 other people and I like pulling all-nighters).

-- I play Pro Evolution Soccer on keyboard and also some random old SNES/PS multiplayer game on the same keyboard with my little bro, so those games may need more than 4, N will do wonders, but 6 does fine i guess (we did played with my previous membrane keyboards, there were raging moments at time but whatever haha). Controller is an option, but that's another topic.
-- I dont like the the position of the port on the keyboard. Other models of CM Storm have the microUSB port underneath with some wire-routing path and it seems to be locked securely in place. And USB port kinda feel a bit loose(?) over time making the connection feel less secure and tight. But I read somewhere that fullsize USB connector is more durable that mini or microUSB, but I have potato knowledge in this area, so not very sure, just baseless feeling.
-- Also, does detachable port become loose if I keep plugging and unplugging? because I bring my keyboard around from home to school and work and also on travel quite often, so I dont want problem with loose connection port T_T

I still prioritize using experience and durability above everything, but spending money on something that I hope will last forever only to lack whatever feature I might need in the future like NKRO or media keys is a bit sad, although I cant think of what activity that requires me to press that many keys T_T. Another tipping point for Filco is the packaging comes with a plastic cover, which I can use to kinda cover and somewhat protect the keys when put naked in my backpack, as the box won't fit. Yeah sound like a pretty lame excuse haha. Also the keycap puller in QF XT is a ring one, and I prefer the wire puller that Filco provides (cost $15 bucks here in Singapore so dumb), although $130+$15 is still cheaper than $200 of Filco

The Ducky Shine 3 sounds like the best match for you then. I can't see any reason really for you to purchase the Filco over the Ducky given they're the same exact price. Ducky offers everything the Filco has and a lot more. It's really only a matter of what LED colors/switch options you have available to you then for the Ducky Shine 3 since they have dozens of combinations.
Check out this video review of the Ducky Shine 3. It's pretty thorough and should answer most of your questions about it and give you some visuals of the keyboard. If you want a very specific look at the individual features this review does a good job, but it's a pretty long video so skip to the parts you want to watch.
I think one thing that the Ducky kinda dropped the ball on was dedicated media keys (such as pause, play, back/forward). It only has volume control. Otherwise it has a dust cover (plastic cover), wire keycap puller, detachable mini-USB to USB w/ rubber cable along with three cable routing options stemming from the center of the keyboard (click here if you didn't understand what I mean), NRKO with USB (source if you're interested: first line of the beginning paragraph on the main Ducky Shine 3 page), standard size keys (so you can replace the keycaps in the future if you wish), and of course the durability/quality that you should prioritize over everything. I had my Ducky Shine 2 for 2 years until I had to sell it to make way for the upcoming Corsair RGB, but it was a really sturdy/solid keyboard overall. I don't think you'd be disappointed by the Shine 3.
Addressing your other questions...
The USB port on mechanical keyboards should be fine as long as you're not rough with it. It's pretty hard to damage that thing considering your keyboard is stationary most of the time. Just don't be so rough when plugging and unplugging the cables and it should be fine. This is an issue I rarely hear pop up.
The XT's media key options DO work in USB mode (again speaking from personal experience). Looking at that review you linked, it seems as though the reviewer has very basic knowledge of mechanical keyboards, though nothing he says is particularly wrong (though on a personal level, I write a lot for my major and that review in general is just terrible).
The XT does have standard key sizes so you can replace them in the future if you want to customize/decorate your keyboard.
To save you from the boring details...long story short: Costar > iOne in terms of quality. That's all you really need to know. iOne keyboards aren't strictly speaking terrible, considering I've used two in the past, but comparing it to a Costar keyboard you'll always prefer the latter because the quality is better than the former's.

Are you from China or the US? It sounds like you're from the US since you mentioned Best Buy but your TL profile says otherwise. I'd probably need a better idea of what you exactly what out of a mechanical keyboard if you want some suggestions/recommendations.

I dont even know if I like Ducky Shine 3 actually because of just a small reason. Bought one for a friend few weeks back, the feel of the keyboard is amazing, but LED backlights... I dont know whether I even like backlit kb regardless of light color, they look nice at times but overall just feel... weird? Feel like it's just for showing off purpose and I think I should be more pragmatic about my purchase. And I dont use computer in absolute darkness so I don't really need backlight to see the keys. (hence I kinda just ignore QF Ultimate and either jump up the range to Filco/Ducky or get the cheaper QF XT instead)
On the matter of Costar, how do you know if a keyboard is made by Costar or another manufacturers? Info on the net seems to be flying around at random and non-official.
Alas, given the price different, I may settle with QF XT if the build quality is comparable to Filco. Tbh, I initially choose Filco because of it's brand and reputation. I probably can use the $60 saved to buy wire-puller and craft myself a dust cover for QF XT. Paying a lot more to get a piece of cheap plastic that other ppl may consider trash is really lame haha. Also I dont really use media keys, and i guess if people can live with 6KRO I dont see why I cant. And with cheaper keyboard, I may feel less pain replacing it with another one T_T

Backlit keyboards is for some people, and for others it's not. You just happen to fall in the latter half; nothing wrong with that. It's like the tension that's been going on the past month or more now between people who want the upcoming backlit-RGB keyboards and those who find it silly. Both have their own reasons for loving/hating it.
I wouldn't worry about who manufactured your keyboard. Standards are being raised by keyboard companies these days and they drop bad manufacturers to maintain a good reputation on build quality. These days it's not who's manufacturing the keyboard that's the issue, but rather what kind of mechanical switches the keyboard has (referencing the arrival of Kailh switches, a Chinese copy of the popular Cherry switches everyone's been used to). Mark my words, this is going to change the mechanical keyboard market for every consumer in the upcoming year or two. It's already making a big splash onto the mechanical keyboard market at the moment (The four keyboards you listed have Cherry switches, so don't worry about this).

+ Show Spoiler +I was merely bringing up iOne because you listed the CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate as one of your options, which I know for a fact produced the previous model of the Ultimate, the Pro version. You'd have to ask the company themselves who their manufacturer is to determine that (at least that's the easy way, the hard way is to open up the keyboard and check out its internals itself). There's a CM Storm representative that goes by the name of Carter who interacts with the mechanical keyboard communities to get feedback and he mentioned this fact a long while back on the OCN forums.
I guess while we're still on the subject, the reason why people tend to avoid iOne manufactured keyboards is because of their affiliation with Razer keyboards (which quite frankly two years ago was downright terrible with their keyboards having all sorts of quality control issues). Granted, it seems like the 2013 Razer keyboards and onwards have had a lot less issues since then, so they may have switched to a different manufacturer (I don't know for sure).
All I'm saying is iOne just hasn't had the best history in regards to keyboards. They've manufactured keyboards for a lot of companies, most prominently Razer, which certainly might've hurt them. Not the end of the world if you buy an iOne keyboard, it's just why pay for that when you can get better keyboards for a similar price from manufacturers like Costar and Datacomp.
If simplicity is really all you want currently and for the future, then go with the XT. You shouldn't ever need to press six keys simultaneously really (Can you imagine playing a game where you have to press six keys at once? I certainly can't). As I've said before 6KRO is the standard these days, and NKRO 99.99% of the time is a useless feature. I'd never worry about this feature in particular when looking at a keyboard. Look at the build quality instead.
On that note, the Filco brand and its reputation is well-known for a reason. Several years back when mechanical keyboards were beginning to rise in popularity, Filco already solidified itself as having one of the best keyboards out there. Their keyboards were a bit pricey, but a lot of people back then would've agreed it was worth the price. I'd argue CM keyboards have replaced Filco since then as one of the most solid mechanical keyboard companies when they released the Quickfire Rapid as their first (since the same OEM for both Filco and CM keyboards were Costar). Ever since then CM has made more affordable keyboards with more features than Filco keyboards with similar build quality, so the easy choice these days are CM keyboards for anything in the $100 or less.
For my last piece of advice: don't get caught up on spending a lot of money on mechanical keyboards haha. Once you fall into that trap, your wallet suddenly becomes empty very fast. Maybe you'll understand the temptation one day of having multiple keyboards with different switches, layouts, etc. Especially aesthetics like keycaps! They're pretty expensive.

I got a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid; it's a tenkeyless mechanical available with a variety of switches. I actually got it *for* work, as the finger strain from using the crappy one I had was getting to me. It's fantastic and plain-looking; I actually stuff it in a backpack when I bike to the office.
It's quite well-made and sturdy.

Yeah, it definitely is a distinctive typeface, although not an ugly one. I'm a physicist, though, and there's no shame in saying "yeah, mostly gamers buy these, but I just got it to type on" in our crowd -- we have a drawer full of Nvidia "Game of Pwns" posters that came with the GPU's we build clusters out of.

aiye, but that multiplayer-on-the-same-keyboard case falls into the 0.01%, which I think I am fine getting by without. Or just invest $30 into a controller. And Filco, used to be my first option, doesnt offer NKRO on USB either.

Yeah I tend to fall into the novelty trap all the time and regret my decision later. I guess I will go with bare necessity for now. What worry me initially is the build quality of CM Storm keyboard, especially QF XT with their design being different from other QF keyboard. But from the responses here and other places that I have gathered, it seems to be a solid board after all. I will try to find a local shop that let me try the board and make my final decision in a few days. extra money can be used to buy wire-puller and controller and mouse or sth haha.

All those keyboards that say "6KRO" for USB, that's just because they keep to the USB standard. It seems the data packets that are sent only have room for six keys (but Alt, Shift, Ctrl are separate, so you can still go over six keys). The keyboard's hardware itself actually has everything needed to do NKRO, and it will do NKRO with the PS/2 adapter you get with the keyboard (in Filco's case for example).
Those keyboards that say they can do NKRO over USB, those are all a bit suspicious. They show up as more than one USB device for the PC. My keyboard from the Chinese brand "Keycool" shows up as one mouse and two keyboards for example. I bet that can cause problems at some point in the future. Who knows if it'll work right in Windows 9 for example? Or what if it's broken if you want to use it on a Mac or in Linux?

Woops I overlooked this. This is why I try to avoid writing a lot because I overlook a few small details usually.
You're not wrong though Ropid. It's sometimes a bit sketchy when you're trying to achieve NKRO on USB. Works on some OS and others they don't. Probably should work on Windows 7 most of the time though.
