Speaking of 60%, there's a killer MassDrop on the Granite keycapset going on at the moment. It's hardly been two days and nearly 2000 s̶e̶t̶s̶ kits sold already.

All those keyboards that say "6KRO" for USB, that's just because they keep to the USB standard. It seems the data packets that are sent only have room for six keys (but Alt, Shift, Ctrl are separate, so you can still go over six keys). The keyboard's hardware itself actually has everything needed to do NKRO, and it will do NKRO with the PS/2 adapter you get with the keyboard (in Filco's case for example).

Those keyboards that say they can do NKRO over USB, those are all a bit suspicious. They show up as more than one USB device for the PC. My keyboard from the Chinese brand "Keycool" shows up as one mouse and two keyboards for example. I bet that can cause problems at some point in the future. Who knows if it'll work right in Windows 9 for example? Or what if it's broken if you want to use it on a Mac or in Linux?

I see, thanks for the info. I am almost clueless about this matter.

@Sovano: also thanks again

Suck be me, QF XT doesnt have sell brown switch here. And Filco yellow edition seem to be running low on stock and come at higher price. I guess Filco Majestouch 2 normal edition that is. Will see what the shop offers

Also what comes bundled with Majestouch 2 box, like key puller or WASD key? quick googling gave me mixed responses, some even said they don't have anything else beside the usb-ps/2 adaptor T_T

So I bought Filco Majestouch Ninja in the end (with the assumption that it's build the same as MJ2 and only changing the keycap design of course), and feel pretty happy with it. The keyboard feels really solid overall.
Thanks for all the advice everyone :D

Hey guys, i need a new keyboard and this is the only relevant place to get some advice so i'll ask here

I do not care if its mechanical or not although the better suited to my needs the better, i'm all for buying one.

I need:

- It to be as quiet as possible, i get that "its not the keyboard its how hard u smash the keys" but there are legitimate differences in sound across keyboards (especially mechanical)
- Not have that silly 3 key-press lock thing
- Pref. USB but i can always use a connector i guess.
- Be generally good for gaming and high quality. :D (For example my current has rubberised, spaced out keys to prevent accident key-press / slipping.)
- Cheap as possible? :D Not really an issue though.

I just need a decent replacement to my 3 year old Razer Marauder, the rubbers getting all shitty and wearing away, the lights are dying on it and the dirt is engrained onto the thing lol. (its supposed to be gray, parts of it are black T.T)

Its for gaming / general typing mostly, i play CS:GO, LoL, Wildstar, Other random games.

Any advice is much appreciated

o-rings are good for reducing noise on mech boards, i think you can double up on them too~

To go as quiet as possible, you probably have some choices between membrane keyboard and mechanical keyboard that doesn't come with Cherry MX Blue/Green switch or non-Cherry switch (there are silent non-Cherry switch out there but it's rarer and gonna cost more). For gaming you may want to try MX Red, and MX Brown is good middle ground for all purposes, although it's up to personal preference and you probably should try it yourself before buying.

sorry I am a bit blur but what is that silly 3 key-press lock thing you mentioned?
I am not sure about membrane keyboards but most, if not all keyboards nowadays should have at least 4 key rollover (KRO), and should be 6KRO for mechanical keyboard. Heck even my old 5bucks membrane Mitsumi could do 4KRO.

Good for gaming and high quality probably leads you to mechanical keyboard, although some membrane keyboard like Logitech G100 and Mitsumi (my old keyboard) feel quite nice to use and last quite long. Membrane keyboard quality seems to vary quite a lot though, and most reviews are only about mechanical keyboards, so those 2 are what I really know as I have personally used them.

That said, some good mechanical keyboards come at decently cheap price (£60 or so? I am not sure about UK price, so just did a conversion from SGD to £) like CM Storm QF XT or Rosewill. (I'd have gotten myself a QF XT if not for loving Filco so much) Doesn't look like you will need macro keys given the list of games you play, Wildstar may be but if you can do without then the above is great.

TL;DR Try CM Storm Quickfire XT Red switch, cheap and good quality. Else try other keyboard from CM Storm like Trigger if you want macro key. Or just random Logitech gaming keyboard.

Mechanical feel really good though, it's kinda like once you go mech, you cant go back kind of thing

Key rollover. Some keyboards can only take 2-6 key presses simultaneously from certain areas or from the whole board before additional keystrokes are not registered, some have no limitation at all when using ps/2

haha ok I understand KRO. Kinda guess it was KRO he meant but still want to ask again just in case he meant something else. Thanks for the clarification anyway

Can someone give me more information on the Ducky Shine 3? I think it's the keyboard I want (with Cherry MX browns) but i can't find it in stock anywhere. Am I looking in the wrong places? Newegg and amazon and mechanical keyboards.com are where i was looking.

I am not 100% sure because I don't live in US but I heard people often mention www.ncix.com and elitekeyboards.com, you can try finding it there

Anyone know why the CMStorm QuickFire Rapid-I (successor to QuickFire Rapid) is out of stock everywhere, while the CMStorm QuickFire TK can be easily found? Even the official Coolermaster store in EU doesn't have a Rapid-I in stock :S

It's a pity, because I feel like the CMStorm keyboards, especially the Rapid-I, have a very nice bang-for-buck pricepoint.

Check Microcenter, they have been upping their mechanical keyboard game a fair bit.

Got mine from ncix.com, but it took quite a while. Should be better for US.

alright i have either the Corsair Vengence mx Browns for $142 or the ducky shine 3 mx brown for $170 (out of country shipping cost upped it). Is this a no brainer for the ducky?

I wouldn't say it's a no brainer, more like what you actually prefer.

Both keyboards offer the same basic standard functionalities with the lack of macro/reprogrammable keys, giving no advantage over each other. Extra keycaps are not really worth mentioning, because they only replace a small cluster of the keyboard and doesn't really offer anything except visual appeal.
Both use Cherry stabilizer on long keys like spacebar and shift, so no difference here either

Corsair comes with wrist rest, so this could be a better choice if you want a wrist rest, although you can buy it separately in other size/shape/form to you liking. However, you can't choose backlight colour. Corsair seem to be a bit larger in size, so you may want to consider your desk space

Ducky come with a wide range of LED colour to choose from, fanciful lighting effects that are ... fancy, no wrist rest. But it's a really quality keyboard that has always been one of the top recommendations for backlit keyboard.

Overall it's just a matter of preference in term of brand, extra stuff like wrist rest or more choice of LED colour. And budget also matters. If you are more conscious about money then go for Corsair, it's quite a solid keyboard in term of quality after all. But if money is no concern, I would be on the devil side and recommend you to go for Ducky Shine 3, as I had really good experience with it and it's not like you are going to buy new keyboard every 3 months or so.

TL;DR: if you need mental support then Ducky Shine 3, else consider what extra stuff you need more as both are quality keyboard, although in term of reputation Ducky is slightly better than Corsair

One difference I'd like to note is that the K70 has non-standard keycap sizes on the bottom row. This isn't an issue though if you don't plan on replacing the keycaps.

In addition, I believe the K70 has a non-removable cable if that kind of thing bothers you.

Also, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not but the NCIX's US website has the Ducky Shine 3 you're looking for in stock for $150 shipped.

Seeing how you're willing to spend $170 though, if you're willing to wait a few weeks the Corsair K70 RGB is coming out with their blue/brown switch variation (red switches are coming on September 8th). That might be something worth looking into if you're interested in RGB leds. One last thing to note is that the Corsair K70 has had a history of dead leds due to ESD, which Corsair claims to have fixed in the RGB version.

Thanks for the advice guys, it was KRO i was talking about btw ^^

Will probably try and see if i can find somewhere to test MX Reds with dampeners or just bite the bullet and do it ^^

Really love the look of the CM storm though - is there somewhere i can buy it with the O-rings installed or do i have to order seperately and install them myself?

You have to go and buy them yourself, but they're pretty cheap.
