power metal will get on your nerves sooner than later though. don't get me wrong, guardian is one of my favorite bands of all time (although i do tend to like their earlier thrashy stuff) but most power metal is just so fucking cheesy. but i guess that's what they're going for. what's wrong with categorizing music? metal has more subgenres than i can count, but they're all extremely diverse and necessary. the problems start when people start putting music in the wrong category. like, for example, muse being power metal.

I can understand having to specify between power metal, death metal, and thrash, but when I hear people explaining the difference between 20 sub-genres of death metal when they ALL sound alike (and probably don't really exist) then it seems pretty gratuitous.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_metal_bands power metal will get on your nerves sooner than later though. don't get me wrong, guardian is one of my favorite bands of all time (although i do tend to like their earlier thrashy stuff) but most power metal is just so fucking cheesy. but i guess that's what they're going for. what's wrong with categorizing music? metal has more subgenres than i can count, but they're all extremely diverse and necessary. the problems start when people start putting music in the wrong category. like, for example, muse being power metal. Well...then again this probably just makes a point for your arguement about the only problem being people miscategorizing bands so...nevermind.
