I love power metal, actually i love all metal except death metal and black metal. Melodic death metal is fine, but not black metal. So here is a list of power metal bands i've listenend on. Most of these bands are brazilian but they are also good. Here's the list: (updated) Aquaria Sabaton Hammerfall Blind Guardian Kamelot Timeless Miracle Zonata Sonata Arctica Krusader Sky Dark Hibria Helloween Stratovarius Children of Bodoom(wait does this count as power metal?) Burning In Hell Storyteller Silent Eye Gunbridge Stratovarius Symphony X Blind Guardian Power Quest NightWish DragonForce Beautiful Sin Avantasia Edguy Rhapsody Jermey Firewand Aina Altaria
allright this is just some of them but i just can't list up them all.

Maybe In flames or Iron Maiden? (dunno if thats power metal tbh :p) Soilwork? :p
no, iron maiden counts as neoclassical, in flames as melodic death metal and soilwork as trash metal. But i like all three of those :d
I guess you could try Rhapsody and Edguy stuff
some people would rather put soilwork into melodic death, although i personally dont like this whole new mdm scene, old arch enemy, old inflames, DT, hypocrisy, at the gates ftw !! what do you mean by neoclassical ?
Melodic death metal is <3.
Try to listen to swedish heavy metal, they are very good . And btw, "power metal" isn't that like dragonforce and stuff like that?
Try out Dragonforce, thats a pretty good powermetal band. And Sonata Arctica <3
try some Gamma ray & Helloween
They both rock
And i'm going to see them both in te new year ;D
Err, *most* of those bands are definately not from Brazil lol. Don't speak of things you don't have a clue about sonny
STOP PRETENDING TO KNOW ALL GENRES OF METAL, MAIDEN IS HEAVY METAL, SOILWORK AND IN FLAMES BOTH ORIGINALLY MELODIC "GOTHENBURG" DEATH METAL
Stratovarius is the shit. I love this band and listened almost exclusively to them for a long period of time. If you listen to Sonata Arctica but haven't heard Stratovarius you have no idea where Sonata has gotten their main inspiration from ;p

my personal top3 is metallica, pantera and in flames

and that has what exactly to do with power metal?

yesus christ, labeling bands is so retarded. It takes all the fun out listening to music.
if you debate genres, you're a stupid shit
and by the way why is everyone here like the same shitfuck bands. I admit i like some of the bands from that list but seems like everyone here likes the same FUcking thing.
I'm nearly the inverse of the OP. I like death metal and some black metal, while nearly all other metal just seems completely retarded to me. I'd much rather listen to folk music, jazz, alternative rock, or just about anything, than regular metal music.
And "melodic death metal" seems like an oxymoron to me. Granted, I'm not particularly familiar with the genre, but what I've heard of In Flames is NOTHING like death metal, and much more like regular metal.
then you have proly been listening to the new albums, go get yourself The Jester Race ^^

In Flames was melodic death metal. Their past three albums however... not so much.

thrash metal? soilwork is melodeath. i like your taste in music. if you look at old soilwork it is defeinitley melodeath with a lot of aggression.
but now they just like. mainstream screaming melody shit lol. duno wat to label it.
i guess i could say the same with inflames tho.
Try Muse. They're british power metal i think.
Muse are...weird, I dunno what to make of them. Although they have a pretty cool and unique sound
I'm not usually one to support the genre classification debate, but how in the world is muse metal?

Yes, because we all have the power of Wikipedia on our side.

power metal will get on your nerves sooner than later though. don't get me wrong, guardian is one of my favorite bands of all time (although i do tend to like their earlier thrashy stuff) but most power metal is just so fucking cheesy. but i guess that's what they're going for.
what's wrong with categorizing music? metal has more subgenres than i can count, but they're all extremely diverse and necessary. the problems start when people start putting music in the wrong category. like, for example, muse being power metal.

There's nothing really wrong with categorizing metal into sub-genres. The only problem is there are too many. I can understand having to specify between power metal, death metal, and thrash, but when I hear people explaining the difference between 20 sub-genres of death metal when they ALL sound alike (and probably don't really exist) then it seems pretty gratuitous.
Well...then again this probably just makes a point for your arguement about the only problem being people miscategorizing bands so...nevermind.
categorization is useful for instance when you are searching for bands similar to the ones you like, it however does not make good debate material since there these days more and more bands mix a lot of stuff up and there are 224154 names for it, so saying *rofl u dont know what genre that and this is * is useless, people are gonna call stuff what they want, and just because the majority says its so does not mean it is, just look whats labeled under "melodic death metal" these days.

All metal is good. I know alot of sub-categories in metal.
Trash Orechestral/Symphonic(in almost all generes, except trash and death and nu-metal.) Melodic(in all sub-generes except nu-metal, as far as i've seen.) Power Metal Nu-Metal Glam Metal Neoclassical Speed metal Alternative metal Dark Metal Doom Metal Death Metal
Wow [IrIs]YellOw you are so cool for naming "all" sub-categories of metal
The ones I love best from your list are "alternative metal" and "trash"
