It's a genetic deficiency (which I have as well) that converts alcohol (ethanol) into acetaldehyde when metabolizing them. Acetaldehyde is toxic when accumulated, and thus it appears as red rashes everywhere. I like to give the simplified explanation that it's an 'allergy to alcohol' as well, even though technically it's not. The usual reaction that I have is rashes all over the body, incredibly itchy; more concentrated on the back, arms, and face for me. I dislike the itchiness that can last up to two weeks (dependent on how much consumed per body mass I guess). The body can build up tolerance to acetaldehyde though, if you drink alcohol regularly, the reaction will be become less and less apparent until you no longer feel that itchy anymore unless you drunk a large amount. | ||
