It's not even about the song, most of the people who liked Gangnam style wouldn't have even listened to it twice if it was introduced to them without having become famous. It just got viral and everyone heard it everywhere so it became big.
It's not so much a one-hit wonder (which is ridiculous since Psy has been famous in korea for ages), as a one-hit concept. Doesn't matter if he makes a song 10 times as good as Gangnam style because it's not going to have the same impact.
this exactly.... I, for one, knew about psy beforehand- and didn't particularly like gangnam style... I was terribly annoyed by all of my friends who knew I was into kpop who asked me about it- and I says to them, 'you only know about psy and kpop because of fuckin gangnam style... you never said shit before whenever I linked a kpop video, all of a sudden you're interested!' the thought irked me... I had linked a countless number of soshi, secret, or davichi live stages and the response was lackluster.... either way- expectations for Psy from the foreign audience was way too high...
I don't see what the problem with that is. You linked to shit that they didn't care about, the Psy video was funny. Not everyone will like the same kpop artists you do, nothing to get annoyed about.
grrrrr, I wrote an explanation of why it annoys me- but then re-read it and it's pretty much a, 'hey you kids, get off my lawn' style rant about how all my friends kept talking to me about GS and I was afraid Psy was going to make a joke of expectations for kpop with his sudden popularity ((in America))....
The thing is that there are no expectations for kpop in America. Half the people who know Gangnam Style probably don't even know Psy's name or that he's Korean.
Haha! True in France too afaik. When I talk to people about PSY, they usualy go "Who?". Then I tell them it's the guy from Gangnam Style, and the most comon response I get, no joke, is "Oh yeah! That fat chinese dude." I usualy end the discussion with a little "He's actually Korean." because I don't want to brag out with my Kpop knowledge too much irl. But yeah, you can't blame people for being new to this.
gangnam style was a shitty song anyways. reason it went viral was due to the mv and the 'lol look at the fat little Asian man pantomiming a horse' factor. Asian version of lmfao garbage phenomenon, lol.
Thanks for the IU as usual. Kuja would you happen to know if IU's Can You Hear Me Album happens to come with a poster anywhere? I have had no luck looking for one so far. Not sure if it cause its a Japanese Album because most the the Korean Albums seem to come with posters.
Hey, nice to hear IU fans still lurk these barren archives. The album comes with a sticker and photo-book. A documentary if you buy the speacial addition album. I have yet to see one yet sold with a poster.
Here is a link to a place you can buy the album, have a good day!
wow theres a lot of negative response for gentleman in this thread i actually liked it alot. its similar to gangnam style, but different at the same time. mv was funny and the songs still pretty good
