i, as well as many many others started to write a ladder blog some time ago in the past. I had high hopes and expectations in myself and my goal was to reach masters.. low / high i didn't care, but i wanted that blue star icon.
And now, with the advent of Heart of the Swarm, i have to admit - i didn't make it.
Here's my story as short as possible:
Directly after the release of WoL in late 2010, i started out in Platinum and played only like 50 ladder games during the 2010/2011. I spent most of the time derping in teamgames and customs.
In early 2012 i started aiming for the 1v1 improvement. I played a couple of ladder games and felt like the level of play in Platinum had become much much higher and my personal skills and mechanics were shitty as ever. So i decided to get myself demoted to get a fresh start in a lower league. So one afternoon i left a streak of around 40 games until i got demoted to Gold and was matched against high silver players.
Over the course of the next few weeks i was highly motivated and played like 100 games and got back to Platinum easy peasy. But then some privat events occurred and i had to a break of about 3 months from sc2. After the break i felt exactly like before, i was totally out of practice and it seems the Platinum Players had become even better. Another voluntary demotion seemed stupid to me, so i derped around in some custom games only.
So long story short - i did not reach my goals in WoL. I did not even make it to Diamond once. Though i only accumulated 180 1v1 Ladder Wins in total since the release of WoL in late 2010 - the amount Kas gets in like 5 days
I am not mad, not even that disappointed. I feel like, i could have done it, if i really had put effort in it for the duration of a complete ladder season or two.
With all the ladder blogs that appeared on TL, i would really like to know, how many of these really were success stories and how much share my experience.
Now, with HotS at the doorstep, i think i might renew my goals. Alot of things have changed, i finished university, got a very nice job, the relationship with my gf is well and stable and i got new computer hardware on the way (played on a super shitty athlon64 3500+ until now - mass battles with <10fps are not fun).
So i might go for that blue star again... we'll see
