Hello Teamliquid!
It's been a while since I posted, so I decided to post any of my art update on where I've gotten with my art.
2012 was , not a year of great progress with my art. In the second half of the year I found that I did not have the time to do anything other than work on my honours thesis and various other university projects. I did not have the time to paint every day. After university was finished I indulged myself in playing video games. Unfortunately I started playing way too much dota 2 and the skill progression of my art suffered. Yesterday I decided it's time to give up the gaming (again) and restart my daily painting routine
At the beginning of this new day I shall show you guys what progress I've made since last year in art. Although I didn't manage to make as much ground as I'd hoped for I still feel optimistic that this year I can get around to starting my own comic.
Early 2012:
I started the year with some sketching. They had some attractive qualities to them but were still a little messy.

First "big" painting of the year:

When I finished this piece I felt quite satisfied with what I'd done. I felt like I had applied all that I had learned in creating it. Unfortunately It held some compositional problems and I had yet to come to terms with how to solve them. The vehicle design also felt weak.
Second "big" painting

For this painting I seeked the aid of conceptart.org. The primary problem was gain composition and I learnt quite handily about it. I learned about framing, interception, tangents and how to effectively use the picture to communicate and create focus. It was enlightening and I can't wait to gain more experience and becoming more masterful at what I learned.
Mid to late 2012:
I decided to learn the nuts and bolts of perspective.

I did not have the time for much else at that time. I could only find time for sketching mostly.
I did manage to get commissioned by one of my good friends who goes by the id Catties.

Around this time my friend teamliquid friend agonyx90 gifted my Michael Hampton's figure drawing book and I put it to use immediately; Completing 100 gesture studies and 100 portrait studies. You can view them on my conceptart sketchbook (will post at end).
I also managed to read Architectural Composition by John Beverley Robinson and which was another exciting and informative read for me, answering so many questions for me. Some of the principles it holds can be applied to more than just architecture and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in visual design.
After a few attempts I managed to exceed my expectations with this drawing:

From then until now Not much has been done other than figure study in the time made available to me. Although I didn't progress much for my environmental or vehicle design I did manage to make good progress in my figure studies.
Here is my best portrait yet: + Show Spoiler +
Currently, I am planning on fixing up my vehicle drawing skills and then hopefully move on to enviro and paint my first big piece for this year.
Here is my sketchbook from Jan 1st 2012: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?224569-Saura-Sketchbook&p=3337264#post3337264
It is nsfw as it contains nudity. Hopefully This year is not as unexpectedly stressful as the last one and I can make up for my failures this year.
