C'mon, that's just not true. IV Has a ton of moments like that. Most have been named already so I'm not gonna bother, and like someone already posted, V has IV to ride on obv..
IV was very straightforward, it didn't come close to the other two in that type of suspense.

Let's see if he can screw up the Star Wars canon as badly as he did with Star Trek.
I was a huge star trek fan when I was a kid and I still am but honestly I liked the new movie. I think JJ will do well for Star Wars too. Some people get to hung up on small issues and refuse to just have fun and enjoy the movies.
A director is just on part of the "puzzle." Abrams won't make or break the movie on his own. He's a capable director and we'll just have to see where the story goes.

You just described like 99% of the hardcore "fans" that big fantasy/sci-fi franchises tend to have. :3
I'm pretty sure JJ can do a good job with Episode VII. The Star Trek movie had plently of flaws, but IMO those were more related to the writing than the directing.
Im happy to see the director of one of my fav tv shows 'LOST' is going to be directing. But then again, he hasnt made any movies that im crazy about. But I still look forward to the movie =)
If Plinkett couldn't even find much to rant about with the new Star Trek movie, I think VII will come out just fine.
Obviously someone's going to get pissed off at the end of the day, but it'll probably be rated in the 90s or high 80s if Abrams can do the same kind of thing that he did with Star Trek.
Whatever happens, there will probably be a crapload of books that'll no longer be sold because they don't make sense with the storyline of VII-VIII-IX. Same thing that happened when the prequels came out to pre-1999 books.
Since J.J. Abrams is famous for strong female leads (e.g. Sydney Bristow in Alias, Kate Austin in Lost and Olivia Dunham in Fringe), I think there's a good chance Star Wars is going to get a female main character. And that would be a refreshing change of pace.

The only reason Plinkett didn't rant about the Star Trek movie is that he thought it delivered what it promised to do, namely mindless popcorn excitement. And I expect MUCH more from Star Wars movies than mindless popcorn excitement

I hope Giacchino will score the music.
He's going to be directing the movie, not writing the screenplay.
I hate Abrams. Strong words for someone you only know through his work, but if he had any sense of what's fair, he would have declined this offer based on his own utter incompetence.
Well that's your opinion. Your wrong opinion. I loved his take on the Star Trek franchise. Even as a fan of the TV Shows, which were going into the same direction anyway, given another chance.

Although it arguably was the case in episodes 2 and 3.
Episode 1 : Awesome Episode 2: Okay (dark side corrupting anakin could be shown better, maybe show how palpatine teaches him to make Sith Lightsaber Crystal or such, get to his ego more by telling him it´s harder to make them red.)
Clone Wars : Awesome, besides Jedi destroy Mecha too easy.
Episode 3: Vader should not have appeared in person. But mostly i dont like that Obi Wan reaaaally would have ended anakin´s life rather than leave him in pain.
Episode 2&3 Dialogues between Padme and Anakin..so bad...
Episode 4: hrmm okay. Blowing up Deathstar with a single torpedo ? NONONONO. Silly useless talk in Dogfight. Episode 5: Best.Episode.Ever Episode 6 FUCK YOU SHITTY EWOKS OMG EWOKS FUCK THIS SHIT. Ewoks really kill it. Why it were´nt fucking Wookies? WOOOOOOOOOKIES would have been awesome.
So mostly i disagree with the writing of the story itself. Ewoks. FUCK.
