I'm gonna be mad if Disney decides to Re-write the canon that came after episode 6.

Eh, I was little disappointed with Cloverfield as well but it definitely wasn't "horrible". Not the best creature feature around nor the worst.

I agree with you. I loved the new Trek and though I didn't watch lost I think Abrams is great choice for the movie (would have loved to see Joss Whedon direct it though) I am excited for the new ones and anyone who isn't is just saying that to be a part of the **I only like the original three cause I am a hipster nerd** club.

Saying I can't not look forward to the new ones is to be a little bit of an asshole. I'll take the title of hipster over asshole, really.

I didn't say you can look forward to the new ones. I said if you are not looking forward to them its only to be a hipster

So EVERY person IN THE WORLD that has not liked the second trilogy doesnt like it because that person wants to participate in some hipster club? You really think episode I is any good? Come the fuck on, stop creating rules to simplify how the world doesn't work the way you want it to.

Who said Episode 1 was good? No one liked it, I doubt even George Lucas liked it. But what does that have to do with the new Star Wars trilogy that will be directed by someone completely different. Also, Episode 3 was the 2nd best Star Wars film :D

isn't the writer just as important as the director, in the case of hardcore fans who are invested in the continuity/lore/universe?

There was no doubt that Star Trek needed to be rebooted. With thousands of TV shows and movies, it would have been impossible to keep continuity. In this case, Abrams' made the right choice to free the new movie from all that convolution by starting afresh, but he didn't erase that history as he set the new continuity in an alternate universe.

I don't think something so drastic is needed with Star Wars, since it's only 6 movies. Are all the miscellaneous expanded universe stuff, books, cartoons, games, etc, considered canon? I wouldn't be surprised if there's some distance from the old movies. That would be a good choice so that we get something new.

The new Star Trek film wasn't a reboot, they did some weird time travel stuff instead.

The EU is technically separated from the movies in canon, but the EU incorporates everything from the movies. The EU is what keeps Star Wars fandom going so that technicality will make no difference. And if they set the new trilogy post-RotJ I don't see how there's room for it. They're going to have to make some big decisions, it's a much bigger problem than ST.

Seems like a perfectly reasonnable opinion.
Anyway I haven't seen anything by JJ, but I hear he's decent. I'd like to remind everyone spitting on him that Irvin Kirchner, who directed the best Star Wars movie doesn't have a much more interesting filmography at first glance...

I liked episode 1. I was grounded for like two weeks, and so i'd watch that movie on vhs and then go to sleep. rinse repeat. fastest way i could warp through the grounded time. Yea i know jar jar ani all that lame stuff but it was fun. Huge space battle, land battle, some sneaky sith lord planning, pod race was awesome. Mostly the last fight scene, 2v1 jedi battle. Was an actual choreographed fight. Compared to ep3 which doesn't actually show any sword skills. It's all close up at there faces.

I thought it was fun at least

Seriously though it was actually really good. Watch it again, it's infinitely better than episodes 1 and 2 and it holds it own with the original trilogy. The action was some of the best, plenty of genuine humor, and watching Anakan transform into Vader while knowing full well it had to happen was riveting.

Says the guy who used double negatives? I was saying that if we have movie X directed by JJ Abrams people would be excited about it (most of them) but since it is star wars people are saying it will be bad just because of this hipster I only liked the first three movies persona.

I never said anything about Episode 1,2,3 but I was generalizing that those who are not looking forward to the new ones (made by disney) also did not like episode 1,2,3. Thank you

I dont get the hate for Episodes 1-3. They weren't masterpieces, but they weren't as terrible as some people make them out to be either.

The JJ Abrams Star Trek movie wasn't particularly interesting - as far as I know Star Trek fans didn't like it, but it did have genuinely fun moments and good pacing. But to be honest, Star Trek is mostly technobabble with slow pacing, boring world building and bad dialogue. I think people like it just because they find space travel concepts fascinating.

Star Wars is a lot different, it's more like a fantasy or comic book movie set in a space with a slightly more mature tone, so presumably JJ Abrams would do well since that's the kind of things he's good at.

You mean people that don't hate on the prequels have to? What? lol.

You mean since you hate them a lot we all should? I think that's stupid. The prequels get a lot more hate then they should they aren't that awful (only one I might give you is episode 1, I don't really enjoy that one at all).

I saw that and still enjoy episodes 1-3. Will the world fucking explode into a tiny million pieces of Death Star-inspired hipsterism? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Find out next week on Dragonball H: The You Better Not Like Something I hate Saga.

I always thought of Star Trek as the more mature of the two, not really sure where you're coming from with that. It doesn't draw people in with flashy light saber battles or anything like that, just good old fashioned story telling and plots.

The original Star Wars trilogy is a masterpiece in terms of character development, story telling and plot in an adventure movie.
