Sorry for saying this, but I actually liked both episode II and III.

Anyway - yeah, Disney is probably doing this for the fat dough, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I'm just hoping for something great to happen :D I'm so hyped I can only be disappointed

II felt weird, but I and III was fine IMO. The whole clone thing was too draggy.

Too bad he's dead, but the best possible director for ep 7 would have been Sergio Leone :<
I know it may sound weird, but a spaghetti western in the StarWars universe is pretty much my cinematographic wet dream.

With like Lee Van Cleef as the sith lord, a young charles bronson as the jedi apprentice and old clint eastwood as the old jedi master. just imagine this, with 5mn-no speech scenes and enio morricone arranged starwars theme. A dirty and slow paced Starwars movie with tatooine desert dust, spaceship motor greasy smuglers and badass harmonica-playing jedis.

fml it will never happen

Same, though 19 year old me.. Not so much. I still enjoy episode 2 and 3 though. I mean.. The acting is.. Sub par, the dialogue isn't excactly shakespeare.. I'm not even a fan of action movies like avengers and such but.. It's star wars! Lightsabers flying around in super over the top fighting scenes.. Love it :p

Well the trouble is that Disney bought the franchise which suggests to me that they will continue, as the prequel trilogy did, to aim the franchise primarily for young children.

I liked and still like Phantom Menace. It's not perfect and several things doesn't felt like it belonged in the franchise but were still good as a movie, still very enjoyable. Unlike episode II.

That is one of the reasons older fans, or people that actually grew up with Star Wars do not like the prequels, and this is more subtle than the obvious Jar JAr Binks hatred, because " It's star wars! Lightsabers flying around in super over the top fighting scenes.. Love it :p"

The perception is:

The OT lightsaber battles are slower, more elegant, more emotionally charged and dramatic.

The PT lightsaber battles are flashy jump displays for adhd generation.

I'll watch it. I don't understand the hate over the newer trilogy. I enjoyed both equally.

No matter how OTT, poorly acted and poorly written the prequels may be, you cannot sit there and tell me you didn't feel just a little bit at "YOU WERE MY BROTHER ANAKIN, I LOVED YOU".

So many feels.

Very true. Then again, the original had the great Bob Anderson, may he rest in peace. All the flashy acrobatics look nice and all, but they just don't express the characters' emotions and personality as the original lightsaber duels did. Just different times and different audience, I guess.

Well, the last hope for a good old Star Wars movie is gone. Though Abrams will definitely make it better than the prequels.

Yeah, I feel like even though Abrams will certainly make films better than the prequels, they will still follow the same style that the prequels followed (overuse of CGI without the proper sense of pacing and ambience from the original movies). Just look at what he did with star trek.

As I said though, I don't really care for action movies in general. I understand why people don't like the prequels, and as movies in themselves, the originals were clearly better. However, I think of the originals and the prequels as different genres. As action movies, the prequels entertained me. They are as I said though, "bad" movies in the sense that story, acting and everything else that gets you emotionally involved wasn't really there. You don't have to have adhd to enjoy a "bad" movie here and there.

I do hope they take the original approach to episode 7, though I doubt they will.

I used to be a purist where Star Trek and Star Wars were concerned. And I still am, in some way.

However, J.J. Abrams really made a Star Trek universe that I can also live with. I still have my supercool and nerdy The Next Generation, but now I can also opt to watch cool, popular, flashy Star Trek with pretty visuals.
Plus the story is pretty well done in both.

As for Star Wars; I allow myselft to consider Episode 1, 2, and 3 as a different trilogy than Episode 4, 5, and 6, coming from a different era. Thinking of it in that way, the prequels aren't that bad.

Regarding the upcoming trilogy: I'm up for it. J.J. Abrams is a big fan of Star Wars (he even put R2D2 in Star Trek as an easter egg, something old-purist me would've considered NOT DONE). He will probably reinvent a lot of stuff, but it will be good for this time and age.

This is good news.

Yes, I felt anger at how badly the whole thing was put together and how much I still disliked the chemistry between Cristiansen and McGregor in comparison to the chemistry between Mark Hammill and either Harrison Ford or Alec Guinness. I distinctly remember that feeling.

Prediction for this film with JJ Abrams: there will be no mention of the force, and there will be no aliens...so as to streamline the experience for non-aficionados.

I'd love for Clint to be in it, witty one liners and the Clint Squint everywhere!
