isn't the writer just as important as the director, in the case of hardcore fans who are invested in the continuity/lore/universe?
AdministratorHey HP can you redo everything youve ever done because i have a small complaint?

Abrahams is.. OK. Not great, not the best name being thrown around but definitely not the worst. I can't help but to be a bit disappointed that it's not Del Toro or Bird but it could've been worse.

I know it may sound weird, but a spaghetti western in the StarWars universe is pretty much my cinematographic wet dream.

With like Lee Van Cleef as the sith lord, a young charles bronson as the jedi apprentice and old clint eastwood as the old jedi master. just imagine this, with 5mn-no speech scenes and enio morricone arranged starwars theme. A dirty and slow paced Starwars movie with tatooine desert dust, spaceship motor greasy smuglers and badass harmonica-playing jedis.

fml it will never happen

I'd love for Clint to be in it, witty one liners and the Clint Squint everywhere!

I'd like it if it was kinda like Cowboy Bebop too but thats just me

The only way Clint could mess it up is if he starts talking to a chair.

Directed by the same guy that ruined Star Trek, I have no faith that it will be any better then episode 1.

no. writers are the red headed step children of movie making. they get very little input in the actual movie despite writing the original script.

This should be awesome. I love Abrams' works, especially Alias, Lost, and Cloverfield.

There was no doubt that Star Trek needed to be rebooted. With thousands of TV shows and movies, it would have been impossible to keep continuity. In this case, Abrams' made the right choice to free the new movie from all that convolution by starting afresh, but he didn't erase that history as he set the new continuity in an alternate universe.

I don't think something so drastic is needed with Star Wars, since it's only 6 movies. Are all the miscellaneous expanded universe stuff, books, cartoons, games, etc, considered canon? I wouldn't be surprised if there's some distance from the old movies. That would be a good choice so that we get something new.

Was Ep. 456 intellectually stimulating? Doesn't seem the kind of movie that turns you into a super-star philosopher. As opposed to say something like the Matrix, which provoked a pretty deep conversation among people.

at least is is better than jokes about worf in puberty -.-

And Abrams is a quite decent director. You should be worried about the writer, not the director.

He did a great job with Star Trek, I think he is a really good, if not extremely obvious choice, to take on Star Wars.

Eh, I was little disappointed with Cloverfield as well but it definitely wasn't "horrible". Not the best creature feature around nor the worst.

I agree with you. I loved the new Trek and though I didn't watch lost I think Abrams is great choice for the movie (would have loved to see Joss Whedon direct it though) I am excited for the new ones and anyone who isn't is just saying that to be a part of the **I only like the original three cause I am a hipster nerd** club.

JJ Abrams was able to successfully reboot Star Trek into an action franchise. That takes some skill.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the choice; it has the possiblity to turn out well so that's something I guess.

There were also rumors from other sources that Affleck is going to be the director, though I'm not sure if that's better or worse than JJ. I'm gonna wait until an official announcement before I cry into my pillow.
