Considering one of the casters complained in chat (while moderating the chat no less) about the casting when we were doing it, I'd say they are fair game.
I don't have any interest in criticizing their casting technique but I can tell you this. Proleague is NOT the place to cut your teeth as a caster. None of us started that way, casting one of the most important tournaments in the world. We did online stuff for no pay and paid our dues while learning how to cast well. If Kespa wants foreigners interested in it's tournament, which honestly I'm only partially convinced that they do, then they need to ensure that their product is appealing to foreign audiences. With concurrent views plummeting anywhere between 50 and 75% vs the first two weeks, it's going to be tough for Proleague and hold interest and build an audience after such an early stumble.
That's neither true nor is it a fair statement. Of course viewer numbers are going to drop from the beginning. Views were much higher initially because it was the return of Proleague, EG/TL made their debut, there was a big announcement about it on here, it was the first all Starcraft 2 Proleague, etc. Nobody expected that they'd stay that high. Additionally, it largely depends on the match up. EG/TL vs KT will obviously garner more views than STX vs Khan. Taking into account the assumed disparity from match to match, 50-75% is an exaggeration.
I see this one is still going. -_-
Have to agree with GM on this one TB and not only that you want to talk about paying dues and not learning your craft on the fly? Give me a break. If you weren't aware SNM has been doing BW casts for a while and those numbers fluctuate because you're looking at the EG-TL games where all the fanboys jump in because they're curious so give me a break. Now I've been super harsh on casters like Kelly Milkies because I find the ability to articulate & enunciate your ideas should be one of the most important things when it comes to being a broadcaster. As for sinking your teeth in and paying your dues you do that on the fly. You guys have learned a ton of crap that way. Apollo and Husky learned a ridiculous amount after their first cast. What about Incontrol and the NASL deal? Yeah, you get your first big gig and you learn a ton about the business and yourself.
Almost 20,000 vs between 10,000 and 5,000 depending on teams.
Thought you have something new, 20 thousand is the highest concurrent viewer number, what's the number for today's EG-TL match, and what's the korean stream concurrent viewer number today? Combine them together, can you calculate basic math to get an over 50% drop number? Show me the math.
From what I get, today's EG-TL match peaked at around 11k viewers during the Ace match. It can be a little bit higher, though.
But if it's really around 11k then it's around 45% drop (11k/20k*100 = 55%).
That's funny. For me it went over 12k and you guys are basing it off of two weeks difference from when KeSPA took over.
A 50-75% drop in two weeks is probably something to raise eyebrows over.

There are other explanations and you need a longer period of time to draw such conclusions buck-o. I just explained a few of them.
Explaining a drop in viewership really doesn't make it a good thing. And what conclusions did I even put in, apart from its probably something to raise eyebrows over?
19k, ok from news. how do you get the 7k number? like multiple people stated, today's highest viewer number is over 11k, or you have bad memories like me. Or you only watch stream after matches are finished.
Fair enough, 19k to 11k is like 45%. It's still worrying.
OK, so we are settled, TB is a liar. I didn't argue about it is worth worrying or not, I only argue that he exaggerate the number largely to mislead people.
Well, if it is statistic we are talking about then we have to taking into account of the error too. So he is off by 5/50*100 = 10% error, which is not that bad of an error if you consider we only have a very small sample size. If we go by 12K viewer then it is 20% error, which is quite big but still possible for small sample size.
I would say TB is not very precise or accurate but lying is a little bit too much.

An angry exaggeration is not the same as a lie, unless it was intentionally said to be misleading. You are right though, totalbiscuit had no business making a post like that, just like he had no business making the countless other similar posts.
I see this as baby steps for kespa getting into the foreign scene. We really should be grateful for them charging so little for the league. Keep in mind the 20k max viewers could be a small fraction of the number of Korean viewers they get on TV. You can understand why they wouldn't be catering to us.
Laughing at the self-important nerds out for totalbiscuit blood, engaging in degrees of hypocrisy and reality bending without actually being able to even confirm any untruth out of tb. Keep up the great work, you are a servants of truth.

The thing is that if this was a random KOTH tournament i'd be totally fine with having these casters but the fact that this is fucking proleague people expect lot higher quality. I'm surprised there aren't more quality casters, I have minimal experience casting and I know I can probably do better than these guys.
Casting is not that hard, all you need is masters level knowledge of each race and fluent english. That's basically it. Step up the broadcast, it's not that hard to find people who can cast. They don't even have to be anybody who is well known, just find someone with decent knowledge and communication.

You need a news link to remember a number from 2 weeks ago?
Keyword "remember", and yes I do need news link, i'm old enough to be your dad, bad memory nowadays, show me the news link. And when you say bad things about other stuff, you need to prove it.
Maybe your politicians could learn a thing or two from this last sentence... !!!!!!!!!!
They need broadcasting training before they will be proleague level good. I hope kespa realizes this and doesnt make them do all their improvement on cast.

So silly, still thinking inside the box? Still at tech 1? It's not about the money, it's about the future. If 5, 10, 50, 100 thousand people pay the measley 5 bucks, it's telling PL that's we accept this. They will then continue this level of quality because it is accepted. If this is the full potential of what is available, then no one here would complain, but everyone here knowns the potential of the quality PL can reach if better decisions were made.
Make no mistake that NO ONE is complaining about paying 5 bucks for this season, I certainly am not. I'm complaining that I WOULD pay $50 for next season, but WON'T under these circumstances!

I don't watch proleague tho. Bad timings, and the casters are not up to the task imho.
The casters have nothing to do with the abysmally low viewer count, we had tournaments a year ago in SC2 that had worse commentary that still drew 40-60k viewers.
Nobody really wants to touch the real issues with a ten foot pole, as we kinda all did that a few months ago with the whole Destiny thing.
The game has been stagnating for a long time, unable to bring in new viewers, only people left are hardcore TLers and reddit/sc2 guys, the more casual viewers began to leave months ago and arent replaced by any new viewers.

Don't bring that crap in here. There's a difference between a regular season Proleague match and a big tournament that's held a few times a year. If the playoffs are still at these kinds of numbers, THEN there may be an issue.
The current casters in Proleague are as bad as kellymilkies, you can tell that Proleague has problems getting decent casters. Will still watch but with sound turned off or watching Korean cast instead. Shame.
Unless you're totally clueless about SC 2 and you're really watching the games to learn, why on earth would casters make a big difference in viewer count? I've heard a lot of criticism on sports forums of announcers, but I've NEVER heard anyone say "I'm done watching my team play because I can't stand the announcer." No, they might either mute it and enjoy the silence or watch while they listen to the radio feed. A freaking llama could commentate and I doubt it would have much of a negative impact on viewers.
What did we all listen to in BW and never complain about? Korean commentary, a language that 99% of us can't even understand. I mean, obviously we don't mind watching games as long as they're good.
Big TV stations always try to have teams from big TV markets playing. A lot of times the commentators are the worst of all time, yet the ratings are ridiculous, because... people want to see the games.
Either you're advocating to bring in tasteless to break the game down for people that haven't played SC 2 or you're needlessly being distracted for no reason. Watch the freaking game. If you don't like it, mute it and put on some music or listen to the Korean feed. If only 20 people are trying something (commentating) odds are most aren't that good, anyways. They have to either be really amazing or really, really bad to have much of an impact. Half of the commentators aren't even high level players. You need play by play that bad, go get some glasses. It's not hard to know what's going on.
Just to chime in, I'm really disappointed that the casters changed. I feel EG/TL should have been more open about the stipulations of their agreement. In fact, iNcontrol talked about it on SotG, but much like himself, I thought they'd get the deal extended for the whole season. I can't help but feel that KeSPA used them to get more subscriptions, even if it was only 5 bucks...
Anyway, I have nothing against the new casters, I'm sure they're trying. It's just that I'm way past listening to casters that know so little about the game. Just an example from one of the recent matches: 25 lings running towards a planetary. One of the caster's is saying something to the effect of "ooh, will they be able to get a surround on that planetary... I think the SCVs should be able to repair". Safe to say, the planetary didn't drop below 95% health and the whole thing was over in line 5 seconds.
The yelling doesn't help either. Yelling does not equal excitement. I was hoping this was a temporary thing as well, but seeing it's not, I'll just watch muted.

Thank god I had the sound turned off so I didn't hear that O_o
