I still remember our first encounter. I think it was around 1998 or 1999, Somehow I decided that I wanted a pet and one of my teachers told me about these birds called Mynas. I had no particular interest in birds but I was astonished by the idea of an talking animal. My parents agreed... On one condition: I had to do good on some test or paper. At that time, I wasn't pretty good at school, so this wasn't that small of a deal. But I did good on it and I could have a pet. Fuck yeah, a talking Bird!
Finally the day came, my parents went with me to some family's home (I still have no idea who these people actually were) and I was excited as hell. As we arrived I was a saddend and shocked, as there wasn't a Myna waiting for me, but you, a little furry ball named Felix. A cat. Great. No talking bird.
But damn, you, little ball of hair, won me over pretty fast.
I still remember you sleeping in my bed and waking up with that tingly feeling on my toes as you were licking them out of curiosity. But not only me, also my... our Father fell in love with you quite quickly. It is funny how he, in the beginning, cropped your whiskers because he wasn't aware of the fact, that you actually need them, and wanted to something good. And all that cream cheese he gives you. So many memories. Years of scratches on my hands and arms from our fights. Years of chasing laser pointers and random plastic handles. Years of your hair everywhere. It's been six years that I don't live under the same roof as you. But you are there, protecting our home from those evil insects, meowing at these filthy birds in the trees, patrolling around the house. But a few times a year, when our parents are gone, I'm there. Giving you food, petting you, getting your hair everywhere. And I look forward to that.
And now, you lost your eyesight.
You are getting old, my friend.

My cat is getting old too, she must be around 13 years old now, I don't know exactly. She can't jump as high as when she was young but other than that she's doing fine. As of now she's happily sleeping in my bed as usual. Yeah, damn cat hair everywhere but it's worth it

Never had a pet until I moved out of home. Now my cat is 2 years old now and sleeps next to me most nights.
Until recently I noticed myself how she brings a smile to my face when I come home even after a shitty day at work.

Now thats a good looking cat! Good stuff!

The last two sentences make me fight tears :<
I was in a similar situation to the OP. 5 years after moving away from home I returned to put the remains of two of my most trusted companions in the ground. One being 19 and almost completely blind while the other merely 11.
Take good care of your cat! Let's hope he still has a long road ahead of him, even without his eyes :>

Really appreciate your blog shz. I'm a cat person myself and have just got my own cat, having had 'family' cats like you.
When your buddy Myna eventually dies (unfortunate truth but we usually outlive our furry friends) think long and hard about getting another cat. Cats are a serious emotional investment and I wish I hadn't now, I couldnt bear the thought of my cat dieing in my lifetime.
Your cat has fantastic markings, like a goatee and a mini moustache.
How old is he/she? I have heard of cats living to 21!
When a cat completely loses their eyesight it might be best to consider putting them to sleep, depending on your personal feelings of course. The day I have to make this decision about my own cat will be one of the worst days of my life.

His name is Felix, Myna would have been the bird :D
Thanks for the comments, I hope he still has some time. My parents told me he adapted quite fast to his blindness, so we'll see.
I'm not entireley sure, but about 13-14 years. That is quite a lot! And until recently, he showed no signs of getting too old.

Nice blog!
I had a cat that lived to be 20 years old with feline aids. The vet said she'd be dead by 10.
