Top Plays Over the Weekend (12/14/12 to 12/16/12)

Over the weekend I watched a bunch of random events such as Proleague or the EG MCSL finals. Typically I pick a tournament and watch the whole thing but not this weekend. Thought I’d share some of the cooler things I watched. This week’s edition of Top Plays now has VODs!

Top Plays Over the Weekend (12/14/12 to 12/16/12)

#3) Stork vs Classic
Proleague Match – Samsung Khan vs STX Soul – 12/15/12 (EST)

Even though I only watched a season of BW Proleague I always admired the meta of player matchups. You could get snipers or you could see Flash vs Jaedong. It’s so much fun. This matchup I though was pretty solid. I really like Stork and have heard decent things of Classic. Anyways, I thought it was hilarious when Stork went for a double proxy. He hid his core in top right and then his robo bay outside of Classic’s base. I think the plan was to do the four sentry drop and drop forcefield at the ramps or the sentry/zealot drop where the mineral line is pinned so the zealots can kill workers. What ended up happening though is Classic poked with a handful of units and saw Stork’s three-gates and nothing else and decided to just outright kill Stork. Why did I pick this match? The sheer cheek of Stork’s builds…I always liked how there were ultra-specific map builds. It was a great idea and watching it fall apart was hilarious/painful. Maybe this game was a bit of schadenfreude on my part.

#2) Jaedong vs Bbyong
Proleague Match – EGTL vs CJ Entus – 12/15/12 (EST Time)
Played on Tal’darim Altar

Jaedong smelled blood from the get go here and it showed. He went ballistic with aggression. I heard that he did the same in BW but I only watched BW pro-scene for half a year or so. And he made mutas haha. But seriously, it was just cool to see him pour on wave after wave of units. I felt a little breathless just watching haha. Check it out for yourself.

#1) Taeja vs LiveZerg
EG MCSL (Season 8) Finals – Game 3 – 12/16/12 (EST Time)
Played on GSL Entombed Valley

This match just made me laugh. Taeja goes for broke and wanted to bunker rush. He spawned at seven o’clock and LZ spawned at 10 o’clock. So he built his proxy 2rax outside of his base near the center chasm closest to him. LZ scouted bottom right first then sees the raxes. But he got greedy and figured he had plenty of time. Taeja then had set up his two bunkers and started to hammer on the hatchery at the natural. And T backed it up with three SCVs and a squad of marines. Turns out three SCVs are just enough to negate the damage of two spine crawlers and Taeja cruised to a victory. I just liked how Taeja knew his 2rax had been scouted and pulled off the build anyways.
