Miscommunication b/w IPL and Gom. It was supposed to be 5 all along, including stephano/naniwa. IPL thought it was 5+ stephano/naniwa. IPL cut 2 world spots, but since they told they players it would be 7, to make up for it, they granted the 2 extra world spots entry and paid flights into IPL 5, but they won't play in the gom vs world thing.
Winners of Sen/HuK and Scarlett/Major will join Vortix, Lucifron, Nerchio, Stephano, and Naniwa as the Foreigner representatives in the GSL World Championship. I think it's a pretty safe bet to say Sen will beat Huk and Scarlett will beat Major, giving us 5 Zergs, 1 Protoss, and 1 Terran.
Looking at how the list panned out, I couldn't imagine a better lineup of 7 players to represent the foreigner scene. The initial fan voting was a popularity contest, yes, and a handful of skilled players were left out, but the best of the best did get enough votes to qualifiy for the bracket, and they subsequently met expectations and made it through to the end. It's sad to see the races so unbalanced, but that's just where all the skill is right now.
Looking at the Korean contingent on the other hand of Seed, Life, MC, DRG, and Squirtle, I have to think that if I were to imagine the top 5 Korean players right now, the only one from that list that I would pick is Life. The other 4 players are in slumps of varying degrees. They chose these players using the GSL Rankings, which is more indicative of a player's achievements throughout the whole calendar year rather than who is hot and who is not right now.
Maybe it's a bit optimistic to say the foreigners are favoured here, but I would put them no worse than 50/50.

The next two players on the GSL Rankings after Squirtle are Taeja and Genius (or Leenock if he wins his ro8 match tonight). All three of those players are already travelling to Las Vegas to compete in IPL5. Wouldn't it just be easier and better for everyone if they threw them onto the Korean team and played a 7v7 tournament somehow?
I can't really imagine what a 7v7 format would look like, but surely it would be better to do that then to bench one of the 5 foreigners who fought their way through a tough bracket to earn a spot on the team?
"Korean players were chosen by GSL ranking". Pretty lame tbh, those players who accumulated that ranking arent playing very well at the moment. They shoulda hand-picked. Leenock>DRG, Rain, Creator>Seed, MC. Too bad MVP cant play either. Well European line-up is cool, Korean not so much. No doubt it will be good tournament, but could've been better.

GOM likes to treat it's ranking as important. I guess you can't really blame them, and at least points deteriorate now (not like last year) but ya, I guess the best thing you can say about how the Korean team was picked is that at least it's impartial. Agreed that it's not the best team they could send, though.

It's only rankings from 2012 and decaying points from the gsl's earlier this year...so no...they are actually the best in gsl for 2012...

Well it's good that they decay, but gsl champs gain a boatload of points so decay doesn't really affect them. Apart from Life, team KR is team slumpuuuu!
My personal team would have been, Life, Leenock, MKP, Creator and DRG.

Then they might as well only have Bogus, Ryung, Sniper, HyuN play since everyone else is slumping also.

The nice thing for the Korean representatives is that they all have excellent vZ, which is going to be key since Stephano-Scarlett-Nerchio is going to be a very tough nut to crack.

That is the problem tho. If they handpicked like you have, there would always be arguements. IE. Why not PartinG over MKP/Creator. Sniper also looks more solid than DRG at this moment. Since they also used GSL points for WCS seedings and so forth, it gives GOM some consistency.

Well I agree, there would be complaints about players no matter what system you use. GSL points is the safest way to do it because no favourtism can be implied.
