Is it a straight up clone spell, or are the Pinkies entering alternate universes/realities? When she first cloned herself and went into the pond, it looked like she was passing into another world, and that the reflection in the pond wasn't a reflection, but a glimpse into another world. So everytime she got cloned, one universe would have Pinkie removed and another one would have one Pinkie added. That's how I saw it at first. But later on, clone pinkies kept cloning themselves, so if my hypothesis was true, the clone Pinkies should be disappearing from this world and appearing in another.
Also, if I had a 5 year old daughter, this is a math question I would ask her: There is 1 real Pinkie and 3 fake pinkies. If all of the fake Pinkies cloned themselves n times, how many Pinkies are there? Yup, totally kindergarten math
I will bet a large sum of money that Twilight did not, in fact, save the real Pinkie. I will also guess that Twilight did not actually banish all of the fake Pinkies. It's highly probable that Applejack missed at least one or two during her round up. Unless they can move the rock blocking the lake cave, they shouldn't be able to multiply. However, it'll be a real pain having them around, especially if they become self-aware and malicious...
I think season 3's off to a great start here. Let's hope they keep this momentum going.
If anypony plays SC2 I would like to ask if we could be practice partners in 1v1 I am a plat level terran and really need a close group of friends that I can ask for critique on my play as well as play for a few hours on cretin days
it was easily noticable that the fake pinkies are only capable of FUN and are only created with Pinkie Pie's general funloving NATURE,but not with the real Pinkie's KNOWLEDGE and EMOTIONS. Throughout the entire episode it was easily noticeable who the real Pinkie was for the viewer by the way she acted in a down-to-earth and realistic manner, compared to the lemming-like behaving clone pinkies.
This also means that, looking at how the last Pinkie acts, she was DEFINITELY 100% the REAL Pinkie, no other way about it. The other pinkies can only do one thing: having fun, and as much as possible about it,while not being able to do complete, realistic and caring conversations.
I also think the idea that they missed a Pinkie is a bit off, since the clone pinkies made themselves easily noticeable by their annoying behaviour, there is no way that no pony in ponyville wouldn't notice another Pinkie who behaves like that.
And after that, heres my own review, (also allready including points I made in the response to erkic, so read that too!)
Now this episode, being a pinkie pie centered Episode of course had TONS and TONS of tiny little bits, like the joke with the old Gen face from Pinkie, the bubbles from her hoof that look like a hand, or the orange spell from twilight failing multiple times. This is probably, combined with the hilarity that ensues with the clones of pinkie, the strong part of this episode, which will make this episode memorable throughout time.
My biggest two gripes with this episodes are however, is 1 the anticlimactic ending, and 2 the "stupidity" of the characters. Lets start with number two since this needs some explaining. At first, when Pinkie was acting like the cloned pinkies it was indeed hard for a bystander to find out who the real pinkie would be. However, when Pinkie started realizing her mistake, which was rather soon after her multiplication, it was VERY VERY VERY easy for the viewer to see who the really pinkie is. Once again: the cloned pinkies only inherited her funloving nature, not her knowledge or emotions, as was shown throughout the episode. They are also incapable of ANY sort of thinking and just try to have as much fun as possible.
The real Pinkie however, was able to talk normally in full complete sentences, being down-to-earth and realistic and caring in the way she acts. She is also the only pinkie to feel negative emotions like sadness or doubt.
This was at first easily visible to the viewer, but afterwards very easily visible to the characters in the show aswell. I always liked that MLP FIM wasnt a show that made its characters look stupid in order to force a belated solution to the problem, like in this case. For a normal person it would have been EASILY noticeable to realise who the pinkie was, when Twilight found the sad and depressed Pinkie, talking about how theres no way for her to prove shes the real Pinkie and then finding a solution HERSELF! Think for a second: ONLY THE REAL PINKIE would want to find a solution! NO CLONED PINKIE would have wanted to come up with a solution and even go as far as to tell Twilight.
Not only that, no clone pinkie would even have been INTELLIGENT enough to come up with this solution. This all means that Twilight Sparkle aswell as Spike were portrait as totally dumb, in order to fuel the dramatic resolution of the episode.
The dramatic resolution in the end, wasnt as dramatic as it should have been either, which brings me to the other point I wanted to discuss, the anticlimactic ending.
Now the idea of Pinkie to have everypony watch paint dry, and only the real pinkie would have the willpower to look at it all the time, was in itself quite good, however it worked way too well and without any problems. The entire ending was just one Pinkie after another failing to concentrate on the paint and therefore being sent back to the pool until only the real pinkie was left. There was nothing more to it, it was just straigth up that and nothing else. I think there was more that could have been done with that ending to spice things up a bit, apart from the plan working 100%.
What if for example at the end the last pinkie did something to the real pinkie, like other pinkies did throughout the test, that caused them both being sent back. I think that would have added some sort of danger to the plan,as the real pinkie would have been in danger of being sent back aswell if she loses her focus or Twilight sends her back on accident, but nothing interesting happened sadly.
It might have been the lack of time,it might have been spending too much time on other parts and running out of time for a better ending, but all in all it was a solid episode that has lots of potential for more memes and fancontent with all the tiny bits and bops to it.
Great Mareathon, guys! Thanks for tuning in, and I'm glad you guys had so much fun. Extra props to those who stayed for the whole thing. I'd write more, but I've been up for 27 hours on the back of 5 hours of sleep.
Oh, yes, and this was played at the VERY end of the event, a little extra something I got while at the Hey Ocean! concert the other day:
Even missing half of it, the marathon again felt like sitting around with a huge family we have here! Ventrilo and IRC were awesome.
I will be hopefully uploading some sing alongs after I get time to go through the recordings ^^!
Hats off to both Cane and Gary for setting it up and pulling it together on time, and a big Luna plushie bow especially to Cane for sacrificing the last 3 days to the many wonders of Vegas Video Editor, while Gary and I were out of commision.
You and all of the community once again have brought an awesome experience and given one of the best highlights of the year.
Great episode. Seriously, one of the best episodes of MLP ever. It captured the very essence of what it means to be My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Sometimes, I want to much epic (like, the genre) in episodes and forget that what drew me to the show: Episodes like this. Episodes that make me laugh, d'aww, and smile. Episodes, that at the end, I can say I feel happier than I was before.
The dialogue was so solid. It reminded me of one thing that makes MLP:FiM so good: the interaction between the mane6.
I say that this episode be the episode everyone starts out with if they haven't watched MLP before, and want to try it out.
although the new ep definitely had its flaws (got to agree with Soulreaver's points regarding those), it was still very enjoyable. the really underwhelming s3 pilot got me slightly worried, but now I'm a lot more hopeful about this season
I laughed a lot during the episode, it had lots of cute and really funny moments. Pinkie Pie is hilarious and also Phantom Lancer. Overall a very enjoyable, classic FiM episode!

Everyone that e-mailed me has been verified so far. If you think you registered but aren't on this list, talk to Catties on IRC.
Some people asked how long the sign-up will be open: Until the raffle. I don't plan to have a cutoff for it.
Still not quite sure what to do for the actual event besides the raffle part.
Some of you have expressed desire to contribute to the raffle. Initially I was not sure how this would work out, but right now what I have in mind is that if someone wants to donate, I will simply ship off a number of orders to them without actually involving transfer of money between us; it's simpler that way. So if you want to donate a number of shirts (or other items?) to the raffle, talk to Catties. I might have something extra special if enough people decide to do so...
