The worst part is everything is my fault.
I've realized that every year m
y grades fall into this vicious cycle: 1. Beginning of the year I do well. 2. Middle of the year my grades drop(more on this later) 3. I go into crisis mode and recover all my grades 3. Grades are good for majority of the year 4. Repeat each year
Honestly this is entirely my fault and i realize how self destructive this is. This year I've been taking harder classes and honestly I think i just screwed myself pretty hard. Like three of my classes dropped from A's/B's to C's and I'm not sure if I can pull them up in time for the end of the semester. Honestly I'm not sure how much college's take into account for freshman grades in college apps but I can't really afford to mess up that much as I'm a Middle-Class Asian Male so I'm sure as hell going to have a hard to time getting scholarships. My Dad has also threatened to cut off Debate and Muay Thai which is justified but is stressing me out as those are my main sources of stress relief. After I bring my grades up I plan on breaking this terrible habit of slacking off in the middle of the year. Anyways I just needed to write this cause I felt terrible and needed to vent.
Also anybody play duelingnetwork? I typically will play a game or two at the end of the night to relax. If anybody does add me IGN: tfaleech

Universities usually look at your junior grades but you might as well start now. Create some sense of a consistent work ethic for the next 3 years, doesn't look like you have any other issues besides being lazy. Or you can work hard now and have a more relaxed schedule senior year.

Yeah, freshman year grades are seriously whatever. Just build a good work ethic and habits; it'll carry with you for the rest of your life. Also, I hate it when parents threaten to remove extra-curriculars. GPA is not the only thing that goes into college apps... and not only that, I feel like those things help you grow as an individual, not just intellectually like academics.

ALL YOUR GRADES COUNT. they look at your CUMULATIVE GPA from all your courses. Yes they may look at years somewhat differently... but a main indicator is your cumulative GPA. i don't think you're getting into ucla with a 2.5 bringing your cumulative gpa down to a 3.5 (assuming your high school goes over 4.0, in which case 3.5 isn't that great). Sorry, not going to happen. It's too competitive.

Being pro active in extra curricular activities matter more imo... Well, kind of. Obviously a 3.8 and a 2.9 are miles apart, but comparing a 3.5 and extra curriculars to a 3.8 the college will like the guy with the 3.5 more. Of course, if you're gonna go to a high end school they want all of it.

Best of lucky, and hope you can pull your grades all together.
