eSports is killing eSports!!!
So, a lot of people seem to have this vision. A vision of what could be. A vision of paradise, that they desperately want to achieve...A world of eSports...
I think they imagine it a little bit like this:
Yes, it sure seems like paradise, doesn't it? But there was once a time where eSports wasn't even a legitimate thing. People just played games and shit and on occasion chose to compete in them... Let's remeniss on those times, shall we?
Before eSports in the west started being a legitimate thing:
That time is gone, however. It is because the world is faced with its's greatest issue, the need for eSports to grow in the West. It is a huge responsibility and nothing makes me happier than seeing brave community members take it into their own hands to see it grow.
Here Charles shows how a typical person can raise awareness.
It's a hard responsibility, but it's up to us, I know that we can handle it. The world of eSports needs great role models also, and we must make sure that our children look up to only the most worthy...
The justice is sometimes...vigilante...but trust me, it's for the best... And we remember to always be politically correct if we want mainstream media to take us seriously. Please, do not make this mistake. We are adult gamers, for goodness' sake, society looks up to us.
Most important of all, though, we must never let these kinds of people go unpunished...
But let's not forget the most important ingredient, the game itself. Yes, it's not perfect, but we must really push it to be the best it can be through the most constuctive means. There is only one way to do this, post balance suggestions on TeamLiquid. Seriously, we need more of them. And making them is just so damn fun, ain't it? Maybe one day, our prayers will be answered:
But watch out, there's a lot of things that are killing eSports. And here's the paradox: eSports is killing eSports
You can try to save it though, by being like this guy:
Because in the end:
tl;dr YOLO
Sorry for the bandwidth cockslap. And sorry for the shit blog. Just had an idea and threw it together, I swear at least half of this shit made sense to me in my head at one point.

Whats really killing eSports is the old people playing SC for the N64 with a GameCube controller.
|
I thought this was going to be about Clutch yelling "THIS IS ESPOOOOOOOOORTS!" on stage tonight.

I enjoyed that, and feel like this blog is exactly what SC2 needs. Some of the things SC2 fans have done in the name of e-sports have been pretty extreme. People should definitely continue supporting it and discussing balance if they want, but less pitchforks whenever a player uses a slur or makes a politically incorrect joke (because that threatens the global perception of e-sports!!!), less of an obsession about getting this recognized on CNN and mainstream news, or having it watched by millions on TV.
We really don't need the world to recognize a game that we like...we don't need it to be recognized as an olympic sport (lol). If League of Legends gets more viewers its not the end of the world, and it shouldn't mean that we endlessly attack and insult those who play that game out of some kind of extreme insecurity that not enough people like ours as much.
Just be happy to play a game *you love*, in which the scene is big enough to support pro-gamers, and pay them well, and as long as this niche community holds, it should continue and we can all just be happy.

I loled at the comics =P
YOLO

I found it moderately enjoyable, a good reminder to uphold principles and still not take it too seriously. And yes, I too found the comics rather chuckle-worthy, albeit crudely put together.
Fortunately this blog reminded me that this IS a game that I love, and thus all is well at least in my little corner, huzzah! Thanks for sharing.

5/5, finally someone who gets it. Title was a bit over dramatic though

If the game was actually good, then we'd be living in paradise right fucking now. We don't need more viewers or more money, we have enough. As long as the current situation could be sustained (and the game was good, which I don't think it is) I'd be glad if things just continued the way they are forever.
Because honestly, who cares if StarCraft 2 is as popular as football (soccer for you americans) if the game doesn't get better? Can you really see yourself enjoying SC2 10 years from now unless Blizzard improves the game DRASTICALLY with Legacy Of The Void?
And who cares if the game is only as popular as it is right now, but it's the best fucking game ever made? If you're playing it and watching it, and there are enough other people playing it to let you enjoy tournaments, and play vs other people easily, then it doesn't matter if there are only 500 other fans, but they all live in your town, or if there are millions of fans, who live all over the world.

This.
The other day I was visiting my great aunt in her care home and saw the whole bunch of them playing SC64 on gamecube controllers stolen from me and I was forced to go around unplugging every console individually in an attempt to save E-sports.
Did it work? We'll only find out soon.

Very well done. I especially dislike the extreme political correctness everywhere nowadays. Also masses whining on balance issues, it has now been here like forever... What happened to the good old-fashioned common sense???

Laughed soo hard. That collection of pictures is totally how i feel about this whole community trying to make starcraft the next super bowl. Appreciating the highest calibre of gamers is awesome and entertaining. Intentionally trying to make it a thing that others ought to like??? meeh.. no that is kind of weird..
Also the business side of things kinda destroys it in a way.. I liked starcraft back when some guy would just slay me with dragoons and id know he was a baller. These days everyone thinks its cool to be good, making being good way less cool paradoxically (IMO)

Wink at the end convinced me,
5/5
